Vulture for NetHack

Game review

I love roguelikes, but will gladly accept tile graphics over ASCII if given the opportunity. Unfortunately, the original tilesets for Nethack are horribly small on my 1080p monitor. Vulture allows a larger graphical display in addition to the more user friendly UI. And of course, Nethack itself is a ton of fun. People unaccustomed to roguelikes may not "get it" at first, but I encourage them to come to an understanding of roguelikes in general before casting final judgments. Try out WazHack for a similar experience.

The visuals I don't mind at all. A silly thing to complain about with this type of game, really. What bothers me is the horribly clunky UI. It's a chore just to work my way through my inventory, equip, inspect items, etc. My time with the demo didn't even show stats for any items when inspecting them, leading me to wonder what the differences between weapons are. Just to see what an item is I have to pick it up, hold a button, scroll over, select it, select inspect, and then I'm rewarded with an cut-off item title and no stats. Maybe there are no stats on items, which seems awfully bland to me. Regardless, the visuals are not what is holding this game back in my opinion. You can keep the old school look while using a more modern UI.

This can be very difficult! But so much fun. I like the look and the firing effects of the guns. Very much a harsh survival experience. Learn to melee...using too much ammo will spell your doom! :)

Henry Attacks

Game review

I love these sorts of games. Waves of monsters, lots of unlockable items, big difficulty. It saves your own personal score in game, but you have an option to send your scores to the website for the community leaderboard. Hopefully an updated version of the game will show leaderboards in-game instead. I can't say too much about the longevity or replayability at the moment, as I'm still fighting my way up!! Super fun.

Not quite as bland as Hack, Slash, Loot though not as detailed as, say, Dungeons of Dredmor and others. Not bad for what it is.

Hack, Slash, Loot

Game review

It's not as bad as some people here claim that it is. The game is fairly simplistic, something to play on a coffee break or in short bursts. It's fun in a simple way. Probably should be priced slightly lower, considering the amount of material you're getting here. Overall, a decent light roguelike(like) dungeon crawler.

99 Levels To Hell

Game review

I really enjoy where this game is heading. Lots of fun. It could use more variety is items and monsters, but I love the idea of the random terrain generation and the puzzle-like look reminds me a little of Spelunky, but with its own unique style. Permadeath is always fun, too.
