Captain Sunflowers here. Core Exiles is a game for everyone: old, young, male, female - whoever. Unlike many such games you can tailor this one to your own preferences because, once you've completed the training quests, there are so many different aspects to it.

The background story is that you've been exiled from the Core (which is a federation of planets run by a dictatorship) and have found yourself on a small planet on the edge of a distant galaxy. At first you will be given quests to do and then, as you get used to the game, you'll gradually be able to specialise and do what you want to do. You'll find, as a new player, that there's plenty of help and support from other players in the Discord Chat (just give them a few minutes to respond to any questions you might ask because they're usually busy playing the game - they will respond as soon as they can).

You can fight, mine (in space and on planets), trade with other players, haul cargo and passengers, explore, construct mechs and have them fight for you, plant settlements ... a whole lot of choices so the game can become YOUR game and can be set up how YOU want it. There are many in-game bonuses as well: discovering items floating around in space which can be sold for credits or exchanged for points to set against the cost of equipment, daily bonuses of fuel and experience points and many others. You can improve your ship by adding modules to it, upgrading existing ones or - if you have enough credits - you can buy a new one. It's free to play but you can also spend real money on it and buy special items in the online store - which is what helps to fund the game and keep it going.

I've been playing this game since 2008 and I'm still discovering things I never knew about! Another surprising thing is that it was developed by two men as an independent game. It's not run by some big games company as a commercial venture. Now it's down to just one man with the help of some of the more experienced long-term players. Please give this game a try: I can promise you that it's well worth it - and, when you get used to it - very addictive!
