If I could i'd slap my virtual money down on your counter already. Really, really looking forward to this and the timing couldn't be better: just after a huge piece of coursework but right before my birthday. Thanks for my present;-)

Yes, while sneaking and stealing are in no way unique, that's no bad thing in my mind. I love the art style shown here, the main character has echoes of Sly Raccoon, but anything stealthy always gets my vote. Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing more=)

P.S. Those are lovely icons indeed, where can they be found? (I may have missed the obvious, but that's typical of me)

spikespiegel115 - - 8 comments @ Frozen Synapse: new video and a mini-announcement...

Sorry i've been out of the loop for a couple of days trying to finish my own tiny, inconsequential game prototype for a piece of coursework..still lots to do=S

You're right, describing the mechanics without seeing them IS confusing! I didn't understand your description of the previous aiming system at all, but no matter because the new system sounds a lot simpler. From the video, when you set the waypoints for the first unit you don't appear to choose an aiming direction, presumably then the unit just aims in the direction it's facing? This already sounds like a great system, I can easily think of a myriad ways I can put it to use. If I get a chance to try the game i'll give you some thoughts on cancelling aiming.

Really looking forward to the opening of pre-orders and the chance to participate in the Beta. Pick me! Pick me!

P.S. That green font is SCARY. I'm glad you went with white=)

spikespiegel115 - - 8 comments @ New Tutorial

Really cool, I hadn't actually seen the previous tutorial yet so this was quite new to me. I'm especially impressed with the timing function and being able to drag around orders. It's good that your making complex options are so mouse-driven, it's very pick-up-and-play.

A couple of things I would suggest: the duck behind cover movement doesn't look that different from normal movement (only the legs seem to push along, like swimming). I know the little icon changes, but maybe make the animation of the character more understandable? Maybe have him going prone instead, and crawling along, since it seems there's to be a speed penalty anyway. Although that's a big change from ducking and may not be appropriate if you can still shoot while ducking (can you?)

The other thing I would suggest is providing a key mapping for zooming in/out to complement the mousewheel. The reason I mention it is because the mouse wheel on my Apple mouse is gummed up with dust (as tends to happen to them!), and, even so, not everyone might have a scroll wheel/want to use it. Something like +/- or PgUp/PgDwn would be good.

All in all, good vid though, showing just the kind of tactical options I'm looking forward to=)

spikespiegel115 - - 8 comments @ General screenshots with more subdued BG

Yeah, I definitely prefer this look, the earlier background was too distracting. Good to see you're trying out different styles though.

A benefit of this style is the light cast by doorways and windows, it makes it easy to spot them (although, of course, they are pretty noticeable already!). It's a cool effect.

Looking great, can't wait for the new vid=)

spikespiegel115 - - 8 comments @ Next Turn WHITE

I prefer the green but it was a bit too strong for the blue I felt..even went a Googling a colour wheel to figure out what goes best...I voted for white in the end.

I notice you used Survey Monkey for your questions. May/may not be of use to you at this late stage, but in my experience Survey Monkey only allows you to have 10 questions before you start paying, whereas Survey Gizmo allows unlimited questions for free=)

Wow! This game looks amazing. Actually, for my coursework this year I pitched a tactical shooter like this using elements from the early Swat games and Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear...looks like you beat me to it! Not that I mind;-)

Glad to hear there might be (unofficial) Mac support, but I'll buy it for Windows if not. It might be that it runs under CrossOver Games (spinoff from the Wine project allowing you to run Windows games on Mac/Linux), so fingers crossed.

Glad to hear your putting in separate modes - hostage rescue sounds especially cool - and that Single Player will arrive later (I like my campaign based games). I'd like to put forward the second vote for co-op though, it would be awesome to execute flanking movements with a friend.

Really, really looking forward to this, i'll spread the word=)
