I was replaying this amazing mod, but keep getting a crash that says "too many decals" in the last area with hecu soldiers and aliens fighting, and I just don't know why, especially since I didn't have such issue a few years ago. Any idea why ?

I'm playing on Half-Life pre-25th anniversary release.

I played the demo, and it was entertaining! I do have a few things to say:

Perhaps it was just me, but I found the dialogs to be too quiet, I could barely hear what the npcs were saying. Also no lip syncing but eh it's not a big deal.
I like the new models and new animations, but there's this clash of low definition models like the shotgun for example and these more hd models like the Grease Gun. Same for the enemies, the new headcrab models and hand models clash with the ld aesthetic in my opinion. I would say to either stick with the original materials of They Hunger, or go the Sven Co-op route and give all this a new feeling with new models for everyone and perhaps even change the weapons like they did to make them "realistic".

Talking about zombies, while I do like their walking animations, the fact that they're even slower definitely impacts their threat level. There are a lot to somewhat counter this but I could still just run past them. I would say perhaps give them back their original speed? I think it has to do with how large the levels are too, and the pacing which I'll mention later. Since there's so many of them, models can become a bit repetitive I think, and some don't make sense like the patient model. Also I noticed that the female zombies have male zombie sounds and I don't know if it's intentional or not.

The levels were rather well made! I wouldn't say they capture the same feel as the original TH since such environments weren't in the game, but I do like them. The interiors are detailed nicely, and while the streets can feel a bit flat and sound empty, they still have a unique feel to them and are believable. Depending on how long after the beginning of the outbreak your character wakes up, you could perhaps change some things and put more details in the streets to reflect that, like perhaps a few bodies, a crashed car, a barricade, a police car... and add some more atmosphere with sounds, like perhaps a scream at some point, a dog barking, sound of fire etc.. I think having a slow start like that, with maybe a few zombies here and there to begin with while this atmosphere makes you feel threatened, slowly introducing weapons and enemies, maybe even make the level design a bit more linear to give this better sense of progress and this feeling of never being safe.
The moment in the barn had too many rosters though. The game couldn't handle so many sounds and besides it wasn't really fun nor challenging as the rosters kept getting stuck on the doors. The set piece itself was a good idea though. It might just be me too, but I'd say that the rosters are enemies that would appear way later in the outbreak. In the og trilogy, to me, it showed how the outbreak was evolving and becoming even bigger and out of control. It's just me though.

I encountered a few bugs, mostly level geometry problems, a few texture bugs, and the biggest one being the transition from map mh3 to mh4 making me loose all my weapons while still having them in my inventory, just not useable.

That's all I have to say, looking forward to see more of your mod! Congrats for releasing your very first demo!

How are you supposed to survive the bombers on Pindoque Bridge? I tried every possible hiding spot or whatever I could do, but I always get insta killed on the first bomb even though it didn't even explode next to me. It's really annoying.

This looks very interesting, I have some questions though:

-Will the story be a little more explained or will it stays like the original?
-Will the levels be as close to the originals with a higher level of details or are you going to take some liberties like Black Mesa for example? Because I think that keeping the original vibe of the mod is going to be very difficult since it's another engine.
-And lastly, how will be the ennemies? Reskins or made from scratch?

Wishing you the best for the developpement of this project!

Thank you for your help, sadly, it seems it is my CPU's fault again. I was looking at my cores's performances and I saw that only two out of the eight were taking everything. My problem was due to one getting at almost full use, resulting in these lags. I think Eduke doesn't like multicore, and since your mod is full of custom content and new graphics/effects, it made things worse.

At least I was able to kind of reduce them by turning off framerate limit.

Oh my,I totally forgot to write my config and specs, I'm sorry.
I'm using the Polymost graphic mode, with Filtering on. I always use this setup, and I didn't had any problem with it.

My specs, if it can help:
NVIDIA GeForce 960
AMD FX 8350 EigtCore processor
16GB of RAM

My CPU could be the problem if Eduke doesn't really like Multicore, since singlecore performance isn't very good on my CPU, but I don't really know.

I'm enjoying this mod so much, this is really some excellent work right here. However I have a very frustrating problem and it seems to only occur with this mod out of the 3 I have.
At random moments, my game freezes for like less than one second, and this is enough to put me in a seriously bad position, like against a wall or with my camera looking up. What is even more frustrating is that the console doesn't say anything, so I can't see if this is something loading that freezes my game.
I thought it was a Eduke problem, but I haven't found anyone who had a problem like this. Any idea?

It's a good CPU, but old games can't support multicore, and even some recent games can't handle 8 cores, the problem is not the CPU or AMD but the fact that the developpers aren't given the tools to optimize their game to fully use this technology. (Hello Serious Sam 3)

So I played a few hours with the campaign and the custom maps included, and I have to say it's brillant and extremely well done, however I had some problems in terms of gameplay that I didn't had (at least if my memory is good) in the first beta.

I always play all my mods/Vanilla playthrough/expansions on Hard difficulty, and when I played Beta 1 there was a bigger challenge thanks to the good balancing. However, I found this second Beta very hard but not in a really good way:
- First, the accuracy is frustrating, it's like I can't hit anything because the bullets are going everywhere, even when crouching and staying still, and precise shots are less useful. Then there is the iron-sight system. Nothing to complain in terms of quality, it's well made, and if put to good use, it could be a fun addition. The problem I have with this one is kind of personnal, because I'm used to have my right mouse button set for Secondary Fire, and having to get used to a new button for this new gameplay mechanic that is kind of important can be tricky at first, but as I said it's personnal. The real problem I think is that this mechanic seems too important. Let's take SMOD as an example: in this mod, Iron-Sight is a nice little addition that does nothing to your accuracy, just a zoom and a better vision of the ennemy. In BHL, it seems to affect your accuracy, which is, in my opinion, a problem, considering Half Life 1 in Hard is fast paced, compared to Half Life 2 which is more slow. (and this combined with my personnal problem makes it kind of frustrating at time, at least for me).

- I found that the ennemies are way too hard to kill. I know that in the first beta it was the same, but less spongy in my opinion, and also the accuracy was way better. In the beta 2, the ennemies have way too much HP I think, and combined with the accuracy it's really unfair some times.
Also, I found the bleeding system useless and more frustrating than anything, I think it should either be removed or added as an option or something like this. (Don't get me wrong, it's not badly made, it(s just gameplay wise)
And since I'm a little nitpicky *******, I will say that the fact that you have to spamclick to use the crowbar and the fists instead of just holding the button is not fun. (I'm joking, I don't care, it's more a problem of how the game will take into account the click speed)

This is all the "bad" criticism I have for this mod. It's extremely well made, and while I have some problems, I'm having so much fun with it, It's really polished, it runs well, the custom weapons are really good looking and well implemented, the models looks pretty good and the remakes for the classic maps are awesome!

So I wanted to retry this masterpiece after a long time, since I have a pretty good computer now, but for some reasons it runs like crap. I can get up to 150fps in calm areas that aren't filled with beautiful lighting and effects, but 80% of the time, I get under 60fps (something between 30 and 50), and it's annoying because it's really hard to play.
I turned off any filters and fps-eater options, but nothing, and since it's a mod I can't use the Nvidia panel.
I had a similar case with other mods like SMOD 8, Entropy: Zero, Fast Detect and Downfall to name a few, which is strange since I have no problems with vanilla Half Life 2 and the episodes, and other mods such as Nightmare House 2 and Estranged. It might be the Source SDK just being old but then some of these mods should have worked fine.
I have a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 960 and a AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor.
I hope someone can help me with this.

I'm thinking that it could have been better if this was useable in Half Life itself, and not as a mod.

But beside this, there are some really interesting things here! I would love to see more of these cool features! Good job!

Don't know why, but my game is lagging as hell sometimes, especially in Eminence, and with the fact that the dogs are taking a lot of bullets to die, it's hard to play.

But for the moment it looks really great, hope I will be able to fix these lags to enjoy this mod, gonna make a great review when I finish it!

I can't change the settings, I tried everything. I took my config file and overwrite the one in the mod, but when I launch the mod it creates a config file that overwrite the one I put... I tried to modify it manually but everything is reset when I launch the mod. I deleted it to see what will happen, and it seems that the mod creates automaticaly a config file when something is changed.

It's very frustrating since I want to play this mod

Aaaah, the only problem I had with the first demo has been fixed (the ennemies were too damn strong). I really liked it! The monsters idle sounds, the darkness and of course their design, it creats a creepy atmosphere that I love! There is even this little They Hunger feeling (this feeling you have when you're scared about entering in a room because you don't know where those monsters can be)

I can't wait for the final release!
