Before starting Shining Rock Software, I had worked in the console video game industry. Ten years building graphics engines, physics engines and general tools was plenty, and I had a desire to make simple and fun games like the shareware ones I used to play as a kid. After a few months of relaxation of not being in the office, adventuring through the mountains, and coding for enjoyment, I found that I had a built a decent part of a new game engine. I decided that making an indie game might just be possible. The game I'm working on is Banished. It's a city building game with a focus on guiding your population of citizens in survival against the elements, and deciding how to best utilize limited and non-renewable resources.
