Though my review was kinda critical, CoF is one of the best things that happened this year
u should respect Xash cause Xash an engine, like Dark Places or OpenArena, while Trinity is just GoldSource' improvement.
hlS has surfaces instead of textures, they affects gauss gun' spread in mp so i prefer hl deathmatch source instead of hl1mp

Sadly, no defense. I have Sierra's HL:Generation, and Steam accepted my key from it so i have hl1 + opposing force + blue shift + cs 1.5 + ricochet + deathmatch classic + team fortress classic both on non-steam and steam
Also Rumpel knew about Xash in August or October and said that he decided not to use it
by the way, Xash3D IS real GoldSource-clone engine. So it could make CoF a standalone game. But it's too late for this i think

well, backtracking could be good. but cry of fear's level design is not perfect for it.

Well, not as hard as to UE..
hl1 is old generation, where architecture labirynth is > than interior
hl2 is close to our modern game industry, where you should modelling modelling modelling etc..
brushworks vs models
if u have always made maps for hl1, when u switch to hl2 u'll continue mapping in oldschool way..but ur maps would look poor on modern engine in compare to older
Key word is "good" =) Not just modern. Design is important too.
Also,
If Rumpel & co tried Source or UE3, there should be no 95% now .. They Hunger Source died as u remember..

Well, Rumpel has made Afraid of Monsters, AofM DC etc - so first is experience with GS
Secondly..do horror game really need all of that shaders etc.. Remember, what is more frightening - Clock Tower\Silent Hill1\System shock 2 - or Dead Space etc..
