OpenRA

Game review

I've been trying to get C&C 95 as well as RA95 to run on my system forever. It can be downright frustrating getting them to work on a newer system and I had given up all hope. Then I found this. It allows me to play more or less the same games plus Dune 2000 but with a better interface, skirmish modes and online play. Overall excellent game and a huge relief to those who love the original C&C games but can no longer run them.

A Day at the Lake

Game review

I've played a few games in my time, and I can say I've never seen such an amazing game as this. When I saw this I immediately dropped my brand new copy of The Elder Scrolls V. It shattered into a million pieces when it hit the ground, almost as if to symbolize the superiority of this game. In fact, I'd suggest this over any game ever made, hands down. It's just that good.

You start your adventure as the mysterious dog-in-a-costume hero, battling the evil Jokker who has stolen the princess. I don't want to say too much more about the story, as I don't want to give it away, but over the course of your adventure you'll run into surprise twists, meet fascinating characters and run into a variety of villains. The enemies are numerous, going into literally almost the double digits, and their AI is challenging without being unfair. The game can still be difficult at times, as the game favors a checkpoint system and so if you die, you'll have to restart at that checkpoint. The graphics rival a James Cameron film. I mean, Avatar doesn't have s*** on this game. The beautifully crafted scenery definitely isn't taken from stock images and backgrounds. Similarly the character models were exquisitely crafted. It reminds one of a finely crafted mohagany coffee table in terms of quality. Like the Rolex of character models. If I had to find one flaw with the game I'd say it's the length. While I had hoped for maybe ten minutes of gameplay, I beat this one in about seven. But there's plenty of replay value to be had, and I suspect you'll be playing this masterpiece dozens of times.

Bonus features include the original A Day at the Lake cover image and a remastered version of the game. While I usually don't go for remastering games, this one does it fairly well. While not the best remastering ever, it certainly adds an artistic touch to the game.

In conclusion, this game is absolutely amazing. I suspect in time it will be hailed as one of the all time greats. It is a must play.
