Hmm.. I have noticed the glitches with the sounds as well but I have not had the game crash or glitch in a way I could not proceed to the lower decks.

Sound like this may be an error in hardware acceleration. Have you tried installing build 13 final to see if you get a similar or the same problem?

It may help to tweak your directX and mouse acceleration settings. I would run the DXDIAG as well just to cover bases. If your running a newer OS like Win7 you may need to run the game in compatibility mode as well as launching with admin privileges. The newer win OSs tend to be finicky with older game engines.

The only problem getting out of a starter town I have experienced so far is on the second storyline where you are marooned by your crew. Upon arrival at Port Royal is where this occurs. I've noticed the dialog in front of the tavern seems to be the instigation of this glitch. It appears the character you are escorted to meet is the glitch, the character does not render but is you move around the entrance of the tavern a bit you will see the dialog icon appear in the upper right hand corner.

The original storyline you have to sail back to Oxbay/Barbados island and go back to sea to initiate the original storyline.

I have noticed that happening as well. The only sense I can make of it, anytime I open a new game ALL of the old saved files are removed. I recall a notice that appeared once and only once, the first time I launched after installing build 14, it said something along the lines of starting a new game will remove all previous saved games.'

I have began to create backups of my saves and store them in a root directory to avoid complete deletion and I CAN restore those files to the save game folders and load them back up.

I'm blown away.. First let me say I am a junkie for 1600-1800 naval anything, the elegance and beauty of the engineering that went into those ships, the lifestyle it created and the legacy it left behind. I was going through all my old games feeling nostalgic when I found potc and of course had to install it, I went looking for a faq and instead found these builds, the first I ever knew of them. Awesome work, I'm so grateful that people like you are out there to help fuel our passions.

On a further note, I cannot wait for Heats of Oak: Conquest of the seas. I'm a gamer and techie but not much for programming.. Sadly. Otherwise I would be all over volunteering!

I wasn't aware of the survey either but I would love to see this game. Can I volunteer for beta testing ;)
