Zen based AMD desktop processor should be released around Q4 2016 if everything goes well. The progress has been great, and I'm excited to see what this new generation of processing power can deliver. Expect high-end, octa-core CPU to come out first during unveiling, and the rest will follow later on. Also I should recommend you to look into APU (CPU+GPU in one package), as this will be best value for the money. Combining the stellar CPU architecture Zen, with AMD's most advanced architecture GPU Polaris, this surely will deliver superb performance at low cost and high efficiency. AMD Zen APU should be released shortly after desktop-based one.

I would say 1070 with 1080p monitor would be overkill for today's standard but for future-proofing I guess it's justifiable.

Well I'd say that it's more like accurate/true colors than fancy colors, since it's geared toward professional use. Quite expensive for a good one.

Maybe you already have your answer and rocking the 1070, but just in case I'll point out some things:

IIRC Nvidia products are yet to be compatible with AMD's FreeSync feature, same with AMD's to Nvidia's G-Sync. You can run Nvidia GPU on FreeSync monitor BUT lacking the FreeSync feature. Maybe consider returning your FreeSync monitor and purchase G-Sync one?

Also GTX 1070 is already on a Titan X caliber performance, so it's already beyond 1440p gaming. It's 4K and VR ready :D

And to get the best out of your monitor try to do some color calibration, with the best being using hardware calibration such as X-Rite or using Windows' own calibration for quick result. Hope it helps :)

Talking about upcoming games, have you seen Death Stranding?

I feel hyped and stale at the same time. All them improvements got me like WHOA DUDE. But in the end it's still the good old Battlefield gameplay of run-n-dead fest. I expected.... a slower approach. But who am I kidding, this is current gen meta.

I'll probably start saving money, but to what it will be spend is still vague.
