Haven't seen you in a while ^^

The platform flexibility is one of the reasons I am going with Unity. v0.40 will be available for Linux as well. I intend to also do a Mac release with a later version but will need an appropriate machine for that.

I will certainly also evaluate mobile devices, but I can see several potential problems. All the information given in the game might end up to tiny on smartphones, so it might only work right on tablets or with it's own UI version. I'm also not sure if mobile devices can calculate the geometry the car designer produces fast enough to allow for real time shaping of the cars and if said realtime shaping works smooth enough with a touch interface.
The chances for mobile versions are probably around 50:50 at this point. Which is a lot more than the 0 it had with Dark Basic ;-)

A good article. I think all who develop games can relate, but probably not all have learned all these lessons yet ;-)

Thanks for your support and the feedback :-)

The UI/graphics where always treated as placeholders, but since a lot of the feedback from Steam Greenlight goes into the same direction as your's we're doing the new campaign to update the UI and the graphics. This will also lead to higher resolutions.

The revamped screens are evolutions of the previous versions, which where built to enable the player to influence the performance and properties of the parts rather than just researching one tech-level after the other.

The game itself draws lots of inspirations from older tycoons of the same topic, most notably Motor City and Detroit. The later had a way of creating a car body from predefined front-, middle- and rear-sections, which was the original inspiration for the car body editor. The rest came from expanding on that idea, including the layouts of the development screens.

I hope that answers your question :-)

Well I guess I'll have to make it more visible in the next release in that case ^^

On the Start screen of the game just above the language selector there is something that is supposed to resemble a graduation cap in white. Just click it to start the tutorial.

Alternatively you can watch my video guide here: Youtube.com

I'm glad you love the game otherwise.
