Excellent game there mate.
I wrote the HDR code a long time ago, back when I only had a Shader 1.1 capable card and so was limited by capabilities. Since then I have never had the chance to go back and change it. Still quite a lot of things I want to implement but so little time.
I have found a lot of stuff in the engine that needs to be optimized, some simple fixes.
I do have a little bit of HDR, not overdone though like most games. Its hard to get right though especially with fake HDR where everything is in the range of 0-255.

It uses Shader 3.0 and also 2.0 for older DX9 cards. I'm thinking of adding SSAO and also trying multi-pass rendering to get Hardware AA back. The physics uses ODE although I calculate all the tyre forces manually. Some of the car models were made by artists that have helped me out on the project, some others I bought from Turbsquid.
