What caught my eye are the trees, I think they are a bit over-saturated.
Very nice stuff. I like it a lot.
There is nothing wrong in inspiration. Quite the opposite, inspiration is vital in art and entertainment.
But being inspired by someone elses IP and simply using it are two diffrent things.
IP nowadays, especially in the games industry is highly valuable, given the lack of new ideas in the industry.
So if you use anyone´s IP in your mod, it´s no wonder many companys will stop you.
The argument "I don´t make any money from it, so I don´t do any harm" is vain : By offering a game for free based on someone elses (lets say a cartoon company´s) property will lower their chance to profit from a computer game they might do one day, or sell the license to a game company. People would say: A cartoonX game? Why should I buy that. I already have CartoonX:Mod for engine Y.
Still. imho there´s nothing wrong with using other people´s IP if they allow you :) Though making up your own is more cool, no matter if the inspirational sources are obvious or not. It´s just more creative, than taking a whole ready concept from someone else.
To the player there´s no big diffrence in "Cool, a Halo-RTS!!" or "This game feels like halo were an rts, cool!"
Don´t show models on a white backround. They are just dark blobs, can´t see anything. Use #7f7f7f instead.
I said it once and I?ll say it again: No thanks. This is too brutal for me. I love gore, I love blood, I love splattery sounds, but this is too much. Sick.
I just hope the plain yellow inside the scope isn?t polygons.. if so, you?d have some serious waste there.. It looks cool and unusual, just the part right in the face of the player couls use some detail.
Almost all of those textures are too modern. Peoplel neither used concrete, not did they have industrial production of bricks back then.
/me wipes the dust off the joystick..
This looks like a lot of fun :D
It looks pretty cool, the only thing off are those crates :P Change em to be wooden barrels, sacks, chests..
Wow. I love this style. Really top quality stuff. Keep at it ppl!!!!
Guess they are talking about baking the lightning to texture from the highpoly and using that as a diffuse/spec on the lowpoly.
Wich is fine, especially if normalmaps are planned later. This way the high poly can be used now and later for the normalmap.
Already saw the railgun on cgtalk, it?s very very nice. Great design.
Other guns look very solid and realistic, outstanding quality you guys got going on there ! :)
I love you guys :D
Just watched the trailer, shivers down my spine.. this is sooo decent :D One of my all time favourite games.
This is my reason to buy doom3 :P
/me goes to the store
Looks great and fun.
Simon, I guess you overread "first" in "first trailer" .. :/
Since we don?t yet have a mapper, the maps you can see are all more or less temp.
Props will come later, at the moment the focus is on essential models, and polishing those.
Remember it?s only really me and carni actively working at the moment.
It depends on the game.
To me it´s not so much the amount of gore that counts, but the way it´s presented.
I like gibs flying all over with a funny squish sound, but the fun ends for me when it comes along with vivid display of feelings of pain, shock, fear of death, etc. Not via the graphics, but more via sound and animation. Hard to explain maybe. Gore and blood is okay, but leave me alone with humiliation, pain, terror, or soldiers crying for their mom when their guts are all over the place. I want to be entertained, not disgusted.
Looks like fun. Gonna look for ut2004 on the shelves. Probably not too costly anymore I hope?
Looks good. By anti-lag, you mean you´ll get rid of the "have to aim ahead" thing? Would be cool, that´s what´s always been my biggest concern about q3 netcode.
That´s a bit of too much violence for me. Some gibs and blood is always fun, but this narrows sick.
And if it´s about gameplay, I wonder what it adds to gameplay. Any serious gamer minimizes distracting effects like this anyways.
To me games are about entertainment.
If this was an anti-war statement of some sort - okay. But if it´s supposed to add to the fun, that´s tasteless imho.
Thanks for the nice comments everyone. This positive feedback will motivate us even more. :)
And thanks to everyone watching too :)
In that case, using it to reward the patient player, that´s a real good thing :)
Heh I guess it would be easier to read if it wasn´t top down. It does seem readable, though I couldn´t really keep at it.
ok I´ll try again:
"If you are reading this you are
proving that we can use
this font for most of
the text elements within
the void world
by looking carefully you
should be able to recognize
words
plus this sort of writing will
give the player a real task to do
however we will probably
provide a version wich is
easier to read
challenge?
void master"
Puuh guys, this is already nice, you bastards.(figured out where the text starts) :D
I think it depends on your target audience, a real roleplayer will have fun learning to read it, and appreciate the immersion.
However it´d take quite while to read fluently. (though it started to become clearer after the five minutes I spend with it)
This is nice and looks very strange and foreign, but some letters could be tweaked still maybe. I found myself mistaking the H for an a pretty often, and the L is too pretty close to an a (took a while to get the L is an L).
I like it and I think you should stick with it for the originality :D
Cookie plz :P
Aw, lol thought i was first :(
Nice indeed ! Reminds of some kind of fish, cool.
Lack of detail.. hmm dunno, I´d say that depends on how it looks in 1st person view.
Those white bricks look like the bricks stick out 2-3 inces from the mortar, percieved by a sheep or horse :P
Be careful to use it only where it makes sense.
Very hot skins :)
Top quality as usual from you guys :)
Keep at it pete, those 2 versions of the shotties show big progress ;)
Looks good, just the scratches on the colt are veeery unrealistic.
The rifle´s wood is a little over saturated, quite the opposite on the thompson imho.
