Hyncharas - - 15 comments @ Report: PlayStation VR Would Be “Terrible” Without New PlayStation 4 “Neo” Console

If the current XB1 and PS4 aren't going to support VR, then both companies should offer a way for people to exchange their existing consoles for the newer models for an upgrade fee...

We're still in a recession/austerity period for the most part, and people simply cannot be expected to afford the constant "obsolescence war" the gaming industry is famous for.

We apologise for the long hiatus that has gripped our project; between issues in real-life and finding a decent, intuitive engine that suits our intentions, it took longer than we expected...

Those wanting to check out updates about our now commercial, 3rd-person, sci-fantasy episodic drama, should consult our new page on Facebook:

On behalf of our team, it's great to be back!

There were rumblings last June from Thatamos to try and resurrect Caliber, but it would be for Unreal Engine 3 instead of SOURCE. Now that the premise behind Bungie Aerospace has been revealed, it's possible the project may return as a more indie-related title...

I'm going to try and reach Thatamos to discuss a revival, but people shouldn't get too excited until the next post.

Probably. It seems to be an ever-repeating pattern: people make a great mod... they get an offer from a studio... and then they either implode or are not heard about in the public eye ever again.

It's disgusting how the games industry works.

Unfortunately; although a lot of us wanted to carry on... the devs have grown tired of making the project. Since they also have all the concept materials, we can't produce it ourselves. We still can't even reach Gary although we know he's around.

Caliber is officially dead. It's not something most of us wanted to happen, but there's really nothing we can do about it. There was this big plan to switch to UE3 when the site was up and running, but it seems that's not going to happen anymore.

We still haven't yet heard anything from Gary (Al_Gorge) or the other leads, yet some of have decided it might be better to try and resurrect the project ourselves. We're hoping the interest will be enough for the leads to join us again, restoring the mod to its former, WIP glory, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Actually the mod hasn't ceased development, they're simply changing servers because there was a virus on their last one on the network the hosts couldn't get rid of.

The background for HB is back up, though, so I guess it won't be too much longer.

To people still interested in the mod, these are the facts.

Sometime in October, the Caliber site and its forums closed down... shortly thereafter, NSArmslab also folded and nobody could be contacted. Most of us are not entirely sure what went wrong, but what we do know is that the admins were having some troubles with the site before the collapse and they obviously couldn't be fixed in time. Since then a member of the old site-forums, Renegade, has taken over the domain and is trying to re-ignite the NSA community - I suggest anybody wanting to help bring it back should pay them a visit and see how you can contribute.

Now I'll talk about the mod. As some of you may know, we came to the decision that "SOURCE" simply didn't provide the features necessary to complete the project, so we decided to explore other engines ("Unreal Engine 3" being the primary candidtate). A couple of us were also talking about some other, possibly "lucrative" stuff with Gary that I can't discuss right now. Then, for whatever reason... the site terminated a few weeks later.

At the moment some of us are still trying to reach Gary or the other team-admins, but we don't know anything at the moment. Until the site is restored, however, we recommend that fans check back here regularly.

No it's not dead. Certain things are going on we can't talk about just yet.

It probably is legal issues. Developers don't like modteams operating a project that will come in conflict with a commercial game they are making. They would lose money.

Many people here have asked how their team can create a mod for a game that is, as yet, unreleased. So, I will respond in their place... the simplest answer is they are not using UT2007's code to do the work (probably UT2004), or they are and have it under a commercial license.

Bear in mind, though, if it is the latter of these a team is not always required to announce to fans their development plan; as most other licensees - which will be companies - would recognise this as nothing short of competition against their own product.

I would dispute that you do, particularly if you can't actually pay for one

I had a feeling when the site didn't show that might have been what happened.

I hope it can be finished in the future

Before anybody asks who I am, I was a 3D Artist who did work on one of the vehicle models for the mod, but IRL-issues prevented us from putting up too many updates to the original site.

The vehicle model can be seen here: Deviantart.com

So, on behalf of one of the best teams I've had the priviledge to work with, I will explain what happenend to us.

We did care a great deal about the project, however this was set around a time when Valve were non too sure of exactly when they were really going to release Half-Life 2, or if any of its planned capabilities (most of which that were in their infancy) were going to be able to compete with other companies' engines...

Ultimately, we ran out of patience with them, and had personal issues of our own that got in the way of us continuing the project. If it is viable for some of us to restart development at a later date, we will. Until then it will remain offline.

If not for the artwork, you will never find one of the most anticipated mods for HL2, features-wise.
