Yes, we're alive, people are still modding and playing Total Annihilation, and posting nonsense, now on Discord too.

The day after I blog about TA Universe being down, it's back up and badder than ever :)
Apparently the problem was nameserver hosting. In other words, the server that announced to the rest of the internet where to find tauniverse.com was changed/gone. So the site was online, but you couldn't get to it.
Now, that has been sorted: the nameserver is at the same place as the actual website, so this problem wont happen again. Hopefully, this will also resolve the intermittent problems we've had over the past year or so of the subdomains (such as units.tauniverse.com and mayhem.tauniverse.com) being intermittently unavailable in some countries.
But wait! There's more! Work is apparently progressing to get File Universe (files.tauniverse.com) back online, and soon, the whole of TA Universe will be moving to a much better host.
This news, plus the new 4.0 patch currently in beta testing, plus 3 major high-quality mods under development ( Zero, Escalation and Mayhem), plus some smaller projects such as the Tortoise Pack and the new soon-to-be-released Spider Pack 2012 being made by a new generation of modders, it's exciting times for TA Universe. Who would have thought that things would still be humming 15 years after the release of Total Annihilation?
...this may have been related to getting FileUniverse, the biggest TA files database on the internet, online temporarily to back it up - perhaps in the few days it was online the traffic cap was blown bigtime! Or it could have been something else.
I'm still trying to get hold of one of the guys to find out what happened... hopefully I'll have some news soon.
At this stage, despite being completely in the dark, I'm still confident that tauniverse.com being offline is a temporary interruption, and we will resume normal operations within a few days.
I'll blog again when I have some more info.
I see a lot of talk about TA on various sites on the internet - most recently at Impulse where, thanks in large part to Frogboy, TA is now available for sale.
It's really great to see that TA has a presence here at ModDB as well.
However the place I consider to be the "spiritual" home of TA on the internet, as it were, is TAUniverse. This is the oldest TA site still in existence, and hosts all of the best mods available (and still active) for TA, including Escalation, Devolution, Excess, TA:BA, Frenzy, Twilight and of course my mod, Total Mayhem. You'll find many more inactive projects in the Boneyards section too.
Discussion forums are there for all of these fantastic, quality mods as well as other subjects, forums that date back more than 11 years. It's still active, and still sees several dozen posts a day.
TAUniverse also hosts a huge, comprehensive 3rd-party unit database (perhaps a bit too comprehensive!), and the biggest TA-related files database ever, which includes a huge number of map downloads. Other hosted sites include TAZone, a subsite maintained and frequented by regular online TA players.
