There is no known way to open the .war files (at least none that I'm aware of). And I'm pretty sure the source code is long lost because of how old the game is :(

Not really, but back when the original forums got hacked and shut down I made a backup forum of sorts. Then a FB page, which is still around, although there's basically no activity. This lasted for some time and I had correspondencies with him about D&O and Black Omega, but I wasn't ever really a part of the SDF Team.

I got in touch with Renderer just now and he said that indeed the engine is too old to run on ultrawide. For this it would have to be recompiled, but there isn't such an old version of VS available to him.

Unfortunate, but expected to be honest. Hopefully it runs fine at least on your older machine.

It does work like a charm for me on a 1920x1080 @60 Hz. In settings it does show higher ones, though, despite the fact that my monitor doesn't support them.

I'm sorry to hear this, but I'm afraid that, with how old the engine is, it may simply be unable to run on such an aspect ratio. Alternatively, 3840x1600 is not exactly 21:9 aspect ratio, so the problem may be coming from there as well.

As for the mouse problem - the screen only seems to refresh because it attempts to select a pilot from the list, but there isn't one. So it brings you back to the same screen. You can create a new pilot by using the newpilot console command, then hit enter to select it. But once you're at the main menu you can't use the keyboard to navigate it :/

I cannot personally help you with this issue, but I'll try to get in touch with Renderer and get back to you. It may take a while though.

You should be able to play with just mouse and keyboard. What issues are you experiencing, if any? Please give a detailed description so I can help you.
