Cheers! You too!
I've not given up! I have big news coming in a few weeks! Eastshade is alive and well. Better than ever!
Lol, yes, that's exactly why they all have scarves. You are too sharp!
I'm developing on a 7870 which isn't exactly high end. I think a 860M will be able to play it on low or medium. I'll do as much optimizing as I can to make sure people don't need crazy systems to play it.
Thanks, Pikachu! That was Jaclyn's idea to make that forest purple. It was initially a boring green. That stroke of genius made a huge difference!
Oddly enough, it doesn't get repetitive to hear nice things :). It keeps me inspired! So thank you!
You have sharp eyes! I made it wide (95 degrees) to capture the whole interior. When I take screenshots I pretend I'm a virtual photographer. I haven't decided on the FoV in game yet, but right now its 75.
Thank you! Which part is impressive? The dialogue stuff? Now I wonder if I've over promised!
I'd be skeptical to say that there will more choice paths than a Bioware game. It is easier to make dialogue branches, someone still has to hand-author them. Additionally, if I want to provide feedback to the player's actions other than dialogue (like an actual action from an NPC) I'm still fighting with the content creation problem of multiplicity, and I have less than 0.1% of Bioware's resources to grapple with it!
The world also responds to you in a lot of ways. You can make a big impact on the people there.
Yes to all of those! They can approach you, and approach each other. You can watch a conversation unfold. They start to say things to you if you stand in their personal space for too long. One of the advantages to using text only is that it becomes feasible to crank out tons of highly conditional dialogue.
Thanks for the encouragement! I hope to surprise you a few times.
I'm constantly conflicted with how much to show because I don't want to spoil things for potential players. Its so much cooler when you stumble across things in the game and are seeing them for the first time. Even the things I could show would be better if I showed them later, so its hard for me. However, I know that no one will care about this game if I don't show the goods, so at some point I'll have to open up a bit. I think that point will be when I have a trailer. In the meanwhile I'll try to post more technical posts and opinion stuff. Thank you for sticking with me!
As far as the world existing without the player, NPCs have lives and schedules (like Skryim). NPCs can talk to eachother as well. There is a night/day cycle and there will be random weather events.
I don't have a mac build yet, but one day I might take you up on that!
Thank you for checking out the update! We're not on earth, and that is not our moon. It's a moon large enough to hold an atmosphere (it may even be habitable) and it orbits us along the sun's (not our sun) plane, which means there is a solar eclipse daily and a lunar eclipse nightly.
Doesn't she? I'm glad you said that because she's too humble. It means a lot to hear your faith in it.
We think alike! Thanks very much for the kind wordsm=,
There is no combat. Its not about changing out of wet clothes its about using water as a sort of impass. But I get what your saying and you might be right. I won't know until I have more stuff working. I have no doubt that non-violent exploration is something that could be as rich as dude killing. If my game ends being boring its not because there were no dudes to kill, its because I failed as a game designer.
My theory is that few AAA artists use it, so few AAA artists want to try using it. So at this point its a self-perpetuating fallacy. I prefer it graphically to Cryengine, because you can easily customize shaders.
First! I prefer to experience worlds through my own eyes. Things look so much less epic in 3rd. Also it saves me the massive nightmare that is animating a main character for every gosh darn little thing.
Oh for sure! I love stuff like that. Hopefully that will be one of the pillars of Eastshade
That siege machine looks awesome! I love how it all looks like beautifully painted little miniatures.
This is such a fantastic and fresh idea! It looks like it could be a lot of fun, and the art style is charming. That windmill got owned! I'll be keeping an eye on this. I wish you two the best.
I'd also love to alpha test this! If only I had an alpha!
Those are very kind words! Thanks, man. Hearing that someone digs it inspires me. I'm in a very good position to not give up.
For sure! I'm definitely going to try to embed interesting stories into the environments.
Heck yeah! I've played through Dear Esther quite a few times. It's been an inspiring and important game (or whatever one prefers) for me.
Thanks guys! These are indeed in-game stills.
Unity and a bunch of addons from the asset store. Skyshop and Shader Forge may be the most important in enabling the visuals. I'm going to do a post one of these days about with more specifics about all the software I'm using. Hopefully, once things have taken more shape I'll be able to get it on a console.
