Ending still sucks, yes. I made the original game almost 8 years ago and only updated it with new graphics, new story relevant information, and scares.

Looking at it again I can totally do more scares but I most likely will not touch Peekaboo again unless some magical game breaking bug escaped my wrath.

You don't need to apologize for your opinion. 5.6 is more than I wold give the game.

Since I'm making a visual novel, why not give one to my fans for free while they wait?

You're very much my target audience. The novel is not about the science behind it (although it will include a txt file with links to secular resources as I myself am not religious and most communities against porn are religious) but about how it impacts an addicts life and what goes into managing the addiction.

I myself am still going strong 2 years into recovery but the process is non-linear and I can manage consistently 5 days at least no porn or masturbation (although I am not a masturbation addict).

Funny you should mention your fiance not being bothered by it. One of the girls you can potentially date in the novel will have that stance. Well, both girls do, but differently.

If you've played Festival then you should know I can certainly craft a story.

As per protocol I've revealed more about the novel with the girls statement. In addition, here's some more reveals:

One is named Julia.

The other Felicia.

You can also choose to be single. Neither woman is necessary for a good/bad ending but they do impact the writing of the ending.

Neither woman is good/bad, they are just two different personalities.

Just to reply to the review criticizing (and I use the word loosely) the 77 MB that is Festival:

All RPG Maker VX games require the RTP to run. To get this RTP you'd either have to download RPG Maker VX yourself or when creating a game you can choose to include the RTP with it.

This RPG Maker VX game does not include the RTP: Indiedb.com

Therefore, as you can see in the comments, players are confused because the game won't run without the RTP.

I chose to include it in my game due to ease of use. The RTP is around 30-40 MB last I checked.

The remaining 30 or so MB that is Festival is primarily the high quality custom music that I made. Problem? :)

Also, 10 minutes of play? Most players should get 20-30 minutes out of Festival and the description of the game states this. Can't really count something against the game when the game tells you that's what it offers.

I ain't even mad. I'm sexy.

Camera certainly needs fixing before the game could be enjoyable. In world 2 it's abysmal at best.

There's also a checkpoint in World 2 and it seems so contrived to force the player to start from essentially the start of the level each time you die. These two issues really bog the experience down. Luckily, these are the only two issues I've found.

The rucksack can get a bit too big though too. At one point in Wordl 1 I was just staring at a Rucksack unable to see my Woodle Tree which made platforming quite hard in addition to the camera not helping matters.

With regards to that, as I said, they seemed to just pick the games out of a hat, and did not tell us about this at all. I don't really have a problem with how they handled it, nothing was taken (since these are free games).

I am working on a cross-platform visual novel but I wouldn't have much to publicly say since it's a paid-for product. You can learn about it from the news article on the page for Festival.

Thanks! Though, the contest was a year ago. It was just some small forum based contest.

You're welcome to ask anything of me regarding Festival.

Desura never contacted me so I'm assuming none of the other developers got contacted when this news post was made. Seems they just picked the games out of a hat.

As I said, you want history, thoughts, etc. lemme know. To start off, Festival was a game made in at most a month (or a week, I forget) about a year ago for a contest. There were only two entries and Festival won.

But if you prefer something even more in-depth let me know. I'd just prefer not to cloud the comment section here with it.

Actually from what let's plays I've seen of Festival a lot of people had difficulties with the bedroom puzzle. Your opinion is just as valid, of course.

It was designed to be calming in comparison to the tense puzzles before it.

Thank you kindly for the high rating and comments! You'd be surprised how hard it is to get solid feedback.

Thank you kindly for your post!

Currently the novel is nearing the halfway mark of development. As I said, more interest, more reveals. Your cookie awaits:

The novel will have 7 endings.

It's a hold over from the default menu used in RPG Maker VX games.

You can change the name of the "Continue" button but you can't remove it without scripting knowledge. And I'm no programmer (although my next project is using RenPy which uses Python).

I chose "Closure" due to it being a word in relation to the story (a word you initially don't have access to within the story).

And it will never work because you can never save in Festival.

While the game was made 7 years ago, I was inspired at the time by the Silent Hill series. I've played 2, 3, Homecoming, and 4.

I only ever beat 3 though.

I don't remember doing anything and The Fall(en) can't be found on IndieDB either.

I imagine somebody just got tyrannical on the admin side of things.

You can download The Fall(en) here: Mediafire.com(en).exe

EDIT: Weird, IndieDB now let's me see The Fall(en).

Either way, go ahead and play The Fall(en) with the link above.

Do you have any gamepad software that is running? If so try disabling it or worst case try uninstalling it.

Turn off the computer and then unplug any USB devices (mouse included). Turn on the computer and then plug in everything.

This includes things like headphones.

Not a problem!

Enjoy. Be sure to check out Festival as well, another game of mine.

And if you're interested in visual novels check the news article for that as that will be a future release by me.

You simply don't have the font the game uses installed. Fonts are like an image and your computer, not having the image, can't load the text.

Freefontsdb.com

It's free, just install it and the game should be dandy.

Or use a computer with Microsoft Word on it, has the font included.

I'd have no idea what would be causing that. Googling now. And the solutions are below:

Try restarting the computer.

Try turning your numlock on and off.

Currently I'm working on a visual novel which will be commercial. You can read about it in a news article on the Peekaboo page. No actual release but somewhere in December is my guess. That is subject to change due to college.

I've been thinking about what exactly I'm going to do once Peekaboo hits 2,000 downloads which will likely occur in the next month according to math.

I've opted for an expansion pack so to speak. Starting a new game from the main menu would ask you if you wished to go into the expansion pack. This works much better as I'm frankly tired of looking at 7 year old game code that I cringe at and would prefer to not touch the base game anymore. Creating a whole new game is out of the question because I'm working on the visual novel which is easier to market.

With that, my question for anyone who gives a toss. I'm considering turning Peekaboo in general as a sort of "horror compilation" with the idea of this expansion pack. Basically, I could in the future continue making new horror experience in RPG Maker VX (not that I work with the engine anymore) that would likely be free (the expansion for the 2,000 downloads will be free) and simply combine them into the Peekaboo download.

This is easier to do for me since if I wanted to make a new game entirely I'd need to make a new store page and set that up. Frankly, that's a bloody pain. I'd rather just add on to Peekaboo here and turn it into the compilation as time goes on if support still exists for the idea.

Reply to this comment or just give a +1 if you like the idea.

If you reply, do feel free to mention if you'd rather me make the expansion content unrelated to Peekaboo's original story. Personally, I'm fine with abandoning the story of Peekaboo since it's based off 7 year old writing ability. I will likely do so unless folks state they do want more content in the realm of Peekaboo's story.

This was one hell of a comment.
