No, you don't need the original game to run this. The game knows where to find the content it needs, for convenience.

It's actually a whole new engine, but built so that reimplementing the gameplay of these old RTS games is reasonably straightforward.

OpenRA only uses the art/sounds/etc from the original game, not the code.

Turn off the `texture sharpening` feature in the driver. We've had problems with this causing this kind of corruption before.
