Great article, it has been a while!
It's a very long and interesting one, too.
Thank you for making my awful DSL connection crap itself with all of those GIFs :p
I really look forward for that demo, too! I'll eventually consider pledging that Kickstarter.
Best of luck for your project!
Cool ! Will try.
Though it would be awesome if it was uploaded somewhere else than Google Docs.
Downloading large files on their servers is a real pain in the ***. They always tend to get stuck while downloading.
Dropbox or MEGA would've been great.
EDIT : After looking on the Greenlight article, it seems you posted the demo on Nexusmods, which is WAY better for downloading large stuff.
Data folder's missing. Doesn't work.
Niiiice. I'll be waiting.
Wow, cool ! That was a fast reply !
I found another water level lover, lol.
As a recent example, I could give DKC: Tropical Freeze on the Wii U. I really liked the design of some levels. The air meter thingy made it a little more challenging, but I liked it. It didn't make it too difficult either, unless you did something stupid, or wanted to drown on purpose lol.
Super Mario 64 had good levels too.
It's great that you added swimming mechanics in this game. I'm really looking forward into it !
I'll wait for the game's news on that subject :p
This game looks awesome ! I tracked it a few months ago.
I started to ask myself : The water rendering is so nice that it makes me want to swim in it lol (it's maybe also because you almost always have water in your screenshots lol). But can you/do you plan to add swimming mechanics ? I must be one of the rare gamers that likes games that has swimming mechanics (when it's well-made, ofc), so I just wanted to ask.
Wow that's REALLY old stuff ! Well at least for modern PC gaming.
If it does its job well for your use, and you don't do super heavy PC gaming, well it should be all right I guess.
Looks really nice. Tracking.
Hmmm, this is an unexpected issue. Is it possible to switch to another sound engine like OpenAL, since DirectX's sound engine seems problematic.
Let me give you my full specs so you know :
My OS is Windows 8.1 (Update 1)
I have an Intel Core i5 2500k CPU overclocked to 4.2GHz
An NVIdia GTX660
10GB of RAM.
You may now understand I find this issue worrying since this should not be the kind of game I'd be lagging on.
I've just redownloaded the second beta, to give it a second chance, but the super low FPS issue is still there, I don't really know what to say more, this issue is a huge game breaker : I can't play a game that runs at 10 frames per second or even less.
P.S. : I've just found out that my recording program doesn't recognise the game, and it made me think : Is your engine using a software renderer ? If it is the case, it's not a good idea, because it's super slow, you should switch to an OpenGL or DirectX renderer.
There is something wrong with this game... Are your beta testers blind ?
I must say, the main problem of that game is the framerate, how can a game with bad graphics like these can run at 10 or less FPS ? (I have a very reasonable computer, i5 CPU and GTX660)
In terms of bad graphics, there is a huge problem with your map, because there is a big problem with the perspective, every sprite is in 2D and seen on the side, and the map is on a 2D with a fake 3D perspective, and it's a sidescroller... Meh.
Controls are terrible, jumping is weird, and hard to aim, even if the game is running in slow motion because of the lag. You can't aim properly when shooting because you can't duck and shoot on little enemies. Some enemies are like part of the map, because you can't select them and you can't shoot on them to kill them. You should be able to aim with the mouse.
The sounds are really terrible, and the music sucks, because it's really choppy because of the huge lag. And when in-game, two musics play at the same time, and it sounds awful. The sound effects are as abysmal as it can get. How can a harp make a weird "bong" sound ?
Alot of things are wrong in this game. And you probably know it, I tried the first beta a few months ago, and thought it was so broken because it was the first beta, but found weird that none of the issues I've seen were mentioned. Now it's the second beta, after FIVE MONTHS, and none of the issues I've seen on the first beta have been resolved. Really ?
The game SEEMS interesting, but I can't play THIS with issues as huge as the ones I mentioned.
