My main focus is testing PC games in Linux. I have had a lot of success with PlayOnLinux in Linux Mint! I am working hard at creating step-by-step guides on how to install, configure and optimize PC games in PlayOnLinux. I am also a artist with skills in drawing, sculpture, graphic arts, 3D modeling and music.
I am doing a bunch of concept art for a game idea. Here are a few environmental sketches
Fantastic, nice design and idea, nice details!
Thanks again!
I probably put WAY too much work into these concepts, but its fun. I could still spend another 10 hours putting more detail in
It's cool you are working on concepts and these look very organic and nice. There are a few tips I can give, concerning drawing:
-us a 4B or higher number pen
-be careful with your values/pressure at the start, keep it light
- don't be timid about applying more value later; try to cover the whole range from white to black. (drop a values layer on top of it in Photoshop and pull it down to see how much more value improves the piece)
- Perspective grids help. Even a simple sketch of your horizon line and vanishing points in a corner is sufficient. The strokes on the top half of the pillars and outer left wall should be going down (as they are on the supporting arches); the direction on the arches is right. Everything goes to two vanishing points and they are both placed on the horizon.
- sharp edge; something I am just starting to really understand: sharpness defines detail! Where there are sharp lines, there is detail, so the eye is drawn there. You can switch between the sharp and unsharp to define a field of view or just to make areas stand out.
As always, thanks for the tips SinKing!
These were just practice drawings to see what I could accomplish in a short time. I came up with an idea and started sketching. Not a lot of preliminary setup, just grabbed a pencil and went-at-it.
I wish you could see the original drawings... they are softer, more detailed and the contrast is much better.
My scans really don't "do it justice." I scanned them a few times and adjusted the resolution. Photoshop helped the contrast but killed the soft tones.
Anyways, I didn't finish most of them because I didn't want to spend too much time.
In the past I would spend way too many hours on a concept, which wouldn't be acceptable in a professional environment. I've seen some simple sketches from other artists here on moddb and was amazed at the detail.
I'm still more interested in actual modelling... maybe sometime I'll try doing concept art for one character and then try to model from it.
