This looks splendid honestly, but I do wonder if there's a way to add light refractures to the fog. It looks volumetric but the sunlight seems not to catch a ray of shadow behind anything in the fog, or am i wrong?
I want to improve the shader even further but I want to stay with the basic idea of improve the fog but stay extremely performance friendly. I will look for cheap ways to implement something like shadows/more volume, but I can't promise anything.
totally valid way of going about it. I could hook you up with some shaders me and my team made for a mod we never released? Might be worth looking into, since we had some extensive work done on it. Ill PM you.

Thank you!... Any working shader is a great way to study new ways of do things. ( Even more if the implementation is with the x-ray engine )
I found that the default volumetric sun rays works extremely well with the new fog. You can add nice shadows through the fog with that.
