A game development student hoping to master Unity soon. My current task is to make three (as different as possible) first person projects using the Darkplaces engine.

Thanks for the comment.

Honestly, we had so many ideas at the start that I think it would of doubled development time to even start, fitting them all in.
In the end, we streamlined and simplified it so that it was a more focused project.
As a proof-of-concept I think it works well, given the chance to develop it further there are definitely things that would be changed and/or expanded upon.

The shop is a good example, I would have liked to have a lot more inventory. Then, you would keep hold of your previous purchases and money collected (between maps)so that you would gradually be able to save up (or sell things) and buy the more expensive items.
Unfortunately, that would have taken a lot more time to make and thus within a set time frame, other aspects would of suffered, so I decided to have a core set of items and have the player reset between each "job" (or map).

Please tell me if you manage to finish it.

I will try to reward those who conquer Diver!
(especially in New Game + mode)

Thanks again for the comment and giving it a go.

Adam.

Hi!
That sounds like a tricky manoeuvre to pull off.
Are you running a clean version of 1.11?
For example, you aren't mixing Hazard with any other engines/mods?
I tried to pick up on a lot of the exploits that were present in 1.0, like rocket jumping over walls etc...

Please go into more detail, feedback is most welcome.

Yes, this is a complete single player game.
There is no multiplayer component at the moment.

I haven't personally tested it in Linux but if you read numersix's comment below, it will hopefully help you.

I was tempted.
=)
Making these three proof-of-concept games over the past two years has been a real education for me.
I didn't intended for them to be paid for, just testing out some ideas.
I'm hoping to put my next game up for sale.
Thanks for the comment.

So,
How come this is on INDIE db?
and how come it is in the "indie of the year" competition?

Is this page just extra marketing for a triple-A title?

Thanks for going the extra mile to get it running and providing valuable help to other Linux users who may want to play the game.
Best regards
Adam.

That is disappointing.
I would be really interested to find out why it doesn't work for you, as I had a lot of QuakeOne.com beta testers who played through it.
I had problems in v1.0 that were fixed for v1.11 but none were related to engine stability.

So you extract the download, run one of the included shortcuts and it crashes to the desktop?

Please tell me if you manage to fix it. There is always the chance that other people have had this same problem and haven't reported it.

Best regards,
Adam

Hazard is a standalone total conversion.
The download provided by the link on the downloads page is all you require to run Hazard.
Please don't merge with any other software or try to run it as a mod.
Best regards,
Adam.

Thanks for the review, I really appreciate the detailed feedback.
Please could you expand on what you think is still present from the original Quake assets (other than the code)?
All sound effects used are replacements and are detailed/credited in txt files included. Some Particles and the Arcs lightning effect are from Darkplaces but not from Quake.
Best regards & many thanks,
Adam.

As an update, I think I have found a way to show more player feedback when you hit the enemy, as you suggested.
I will try and implement it in an update.

I'm sorry to hear that it annoyed you, I will try to address as many of the player concerns as I can in the next update.
Regarding weapons staying after completion: That is intentional as I wanted to reward the players that continue on into the hard mode. It gives you more chance of beating a certain tough enemy.
New Game will wipe your progress but pressing (F6) quicksave (even in the start area) will save it. I will definitely consider a level select screen.
Thanks for playing through it all the way to the end.
I really appreciate you putting the effort in.

Thanks for trying it out, you are correct, there are limitations and to be honest it is a proof-of-concept rather then a finished product. Not to say Darkplaces doesn't have some cool features, it does, but I didn't want to get too bogged down with a prototype.
