Hey guys, Some of you are having issues with desura crashing on login. This bug is fixed in the new public build. To get the update what you have to do is this: * Run force update from start menu (desura -> desura (force update)) Please let me know of any other issues you have. Mark |

Looks like this fix needs to be re-visited, just installed the client and keeps crashing at login. Can't uninstall the client, what a mess. Failed to login!Failed to start desura service: service desura installService Startup timed out after 30 seconds [55.0][55.0] I see a few log files in the directory, let's see what they say: debug.log |

Hmmm maybe you could make a firewall exception for desura_service.exe? Something (firewall, antivirus) may block Desura exe's, or force-update Desura. Edited by: feillyne |

I'm pretty frustrated myself: just dropped 20 bucks on Xenonauts and apparently I'm going to have to download the game manually, because the Desura Install service simply won't start and when I attempt to login, the program simply hangs (and none of the buttons work except for the "Auto" check box) and does nothing. I can get into the program in offline mode, but I don't have any games installed yet, so there's nothing there. Here's the event log: Faulting application name: desura_service.exe, version: 0.0.14.16, time stamp: 0x4ebfea3eFaulting module name: dbghelp.dll_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4ce7b7bcException code: 0xc0000005Fault offset: 0x6fff5d38Faulting process id: 0x1d58Faulting application start time: 0x01cdc421cde05fa0Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Desura\desura_service.exeFaulting module path: dbghelp.dllReport Id: 0b90a3b6-3015-11e2-9b00-1c6f652566d9 Trying to manually start the "Desura Install Service" gives me the error message: "Windows could not start Desura Install Service service on Local Computer. Error 0xffffffff: 0xffffffff" What's the problem? My account is the administrator account, so this isn't an issue with permissions. I also have my anti-virus disabled while trying to login. I have also tried force updating the program: it would complain a few times, again, about the Install Service not being able to start, then re-download the program again, but the same problems occur yet again. I want to play the game I bought, without having to re-download 2+ GB every time they release an update, hopefully someone can help me out here |

Btw, do you really need to start desura service while uninstalling desura? Because if it fails to start, uninstallation is impossible! Edited by: Deviorian |

It's like when I put my correct username and password, it randomly adds more to my password. Can you guys please fix this? |
||
Nov 28 2012 Anchor | ||
Nope, nothing is added actually. More symbols are added only for display/security reasons. If you type in the correct password, you should be able to log in just fine. Edited by: feillyne |

I havn't been able to log in for days. I enter username & password, wait - quite a while for a log in, then; "An error has occured that is preventing Desura from running correctly. Restarting Desura should allow you to continue, otherwise you can clean your desura install by forcing an update". 3I have tried the suggestions above and nothing seems to work. 2/12/12 EDIT: Edited by: Bascule42 |

Following recommendations doesn't help here too. Keeps crashing.
update_log.txt
Can this probably be caused by IE10 installed? Does Desura use its engine for rendering? |

Yeah, it's not working for me, I get the same things as Mancubus. The only change I made to my system was I installed a second graphics card and turned on my SLI configuration. Edit: So I went into the NVIDIA control panel, disabled SLI, and desura started working. I totally don't understand how that works. Edited by: elizibar |

I managed to get mine working by running in Windows XP (service pack 3) Compatibility mode and running in Administrator. |

this worked for me. when can we expect an actual fix? i didn't ave this problem until today when i tried to install G String. up until that point, everything worked fine. |

Compatability mode and admin worked here too..... I'm sure a fic will be on the cards. Ju st glad I can use Desura again. I'd only just found it and it quickly became very well used. |

I cannot log in to Desura either. I get the same error message as Bascule42 Bascule42 wrote: . . ."An error has occured that is preventing Desura from running correctly. Restarting Desura should allow you to continue, otherwise you can clean your desura install by forcing an update". . . Desura was working fine when I installed Black Mesa. Then I tried installing G String (same as dumkid71) and Desura crashed. I have not been able to log in since. I can go offline, but that does not help much as far as installing anything in the future. I can log in to the Web site, just not the application. I did try the Windows XP Compatability mode suggestion, but that has not worked for me (unfortunately). Anyone have any other suggestions? |

I'm having the same problem as Bascule42, Archer68, and Kietram. Mine started on 21 Dec, when I tried to download an update and Desura reported it couldn't find any servers. Additionally, I have emailed Desura support and received no response. This is, I'm afraid, getting pretty tiresome. |

@Archer68 @cwangersky Have you tried force-updating / reinstalling Desura? Compatibility mode or admin permissions? |
||
Jan 6 2013 Anchor | ||
I have tried force update numerous times with no change in behaviour. I am extremely reluctant to try either compatibility mode or admin because that affects the entire process tree -- not only Desura, but also every program that the Desura client starts. Will re-installing mean that I have to re-download all my games? For what it's worth: the event log (system event log) shows the Desura install service starting and stopping, no errors. The application log has nothing related to Desura at all.
Addendum: Starting in Admin mode results in the same error. |

I was having the same exact problem, started on the 14th I believe, couldnt log in, offline worked fine, force update did nada, etc. But then I tried using win xp sp3 compatability mode (as admin) as suggested above and it worked, so you should try that |
||
Jan 26 2013 Anchor | ||
Well, yes, that works, but as a result, every game that Desura launches will be launched in WIndows XP compatibility mode and with Admin privileges. I don't think I need to point out that this is a security risk, and it certainly makes me uncomfortable. |

Whenever I try to login, A screen pops up that says: Restarting Desura, as well as forcing an update does nothing. It isn't blocked on my firewall, and I am not sure how to uninstall it. I didn't install a mod recently since this happened. I'm not sure what to do. Did this happen to anyone else? If it did, any suggestions? |
