Xelef is an adventure 3d platformer based on a folksong set in the 19th century Princedom of Bohtan. Gather allies and weapons as a rebel to challenge the usurper prince.

The basic premise and design are:

Core mechanics: The player should be able to dash, (double) jump, wall slide and sprint, all of these use stamina. For attacks a simple system is used in which the player can do a basic 2 step attack combo. Each attack however can be increased in damage by holding the mouse button. Ofcourse this will use stamina so this is an important resource to manage! Furthermore a 'special' attack button (still to be decided) can be used in combination with multiple other buttons for variants of that special attack. Being in the air while pressing for example results in a ground pound. The game as of now should have 5 levels. These in terms of layout are mostly inspired by 'the cosmic shake' in terms of overall layout. There is a clear main objective but wandering off can reward you with other things (cool cosmetics?). Finaly the weapons that are relevant are the sword and the off-hand pistol. The off-hand pistol will also be useful for platforming.

Design and looks: The main inspiration in terms of the looks are guild wars 2's loading screen that have a painted look. Other similar materials like prints from old newspapers also inspire the graphics of this game. The setting for the game is mostly 19th century Bohtan. A region in the middle east.

Story: Xelef (the main character) rebels against the usurper prince who commited treachery. The prince sends his henchmen after Xelef who flees in search of allies to challenge the prince.

Xelef, an Adventure Platformer Based on a Folktale

Welcome to the first devlog of Xelef an adventure platformer set in the 19th century princedom of Bohtan. The player a rebel named Xelef will gather allies and weapons to challange the usurper prince. The game is intended to be on the shorter side taking several hours to beat.

So far the character movement has a nice start, the character can move, (double) jump, sprint, dash and do multiple types of attack. The beginning for the first level has been done as well to set the tone of the game. The game is inspired by guild wars 2's wallpapers as well as 19th century prints. Aside from the main weapon which is the sword the character also has a pistol (the actual weapon has not been modeled yet).
