Here is a second option that may be seen.
Looks nice, but can be much better IMO. It's early development ofcourse, but on the main menu is where the player will get thier first impressions.
I think an moving background would be awesome. Like the ship going back and forth on the same place, the sounds of the ocean and wind.
I think it's also cool to switch from scenery after a while and show the image named "Sunset image" here on IndieDB and make it moving.
Even the image named "Writing desk" can be nice. Make it it moving and with sounds of wood creeking and water hitting the boat.
Tempest should be 3D and textured, like gold or something. Just more detailed.
The same with the other text. Its white and boring. The front is nice, but it need more.
I think this should make it better and will give a better impression then what you show here.
Thanks for the comment! Our main menu is actually how you describe it, it is an in-game scene with the ship sailing from right to left. We've been experimenting with randomising the contents of the scene as well. Thanks for the other suggestions though! We will take them in to account, I especially like the idea of having the writing desk as a menu, that way we could put the buttons on to the map on the desk.
