Please reply to this thread with any bugs you find in the alpha. There are a lot of rocks with no collision mesh, we're trying to fix those in the next day or 2. Otherwise, anything that isn't on the known bugs list report here. If you get a crash we'd love to know about it.

I am seeing a blank loading screen (white) which persists for about 30 seconds between game set-up dialogue and log-in request. Is there supposed to be some sort of image there? It's disconcerting because you think the game has crashed before you start.

I have not found any unlocks yet, but hitting the M key turned me into a gryphon. I managed to take off and fly, but only in an apparently uncontrollable circle, and I could only stop this by using the flower button to morph into ent again.. when I gently fell to the ground.

I can replicate morphing into a gryphon but not the flight.
Use of the back key (down arrow or S) makes you walk in very small circles, basically rotating on the spot.

Can now fly. Bit clumsy. Steering by cursor and land by using cursor as well. To fly, the cursor must be in front of the gryphon, dab the F key,and steer by cursor.

Definitely need a map or compass or an ent-nav or something. I am totally lost and don't even know how to get back to where I started.

hi I'm having a few problems
Flash player 116. 602.180
OS Windows Vista 32bit
Browser IE 9

I have downloaded the windows zip flie and extracted to my downloads, when I lauch wander it opens a select graphics quality UI and i chose simple, I get a new tab which is the wander window this gives me a veiw of two island, one left one right and I can see the waterfall on the left island is flowing, the UI interface bottom left will open and I can hear a click if i try selecting, atm the gryphon is active? and the ent appears unlocked, green.

My problem is I have no movement at all, I dont see any indication of self on the screen, I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling but still no joy, Help!!

Mar 16 2013 Anchor

I was actually pleasantly surprised at a lack of hangtime/crashes.
Most of my issues were just textural stuff (Sky flickered etc) and also one of the waterfall's rivers had trees in, which just niggles at me from a botanical perspective. But this is aesthetic nitpicking. At first I thought that the movement and morphing was bugged, but I eventually figured out it was just a little tricky as I had to be careful with mouse placement pre-flight and so forth (I'd like this to be fixed - having to do a weird jump-takeoff to keep the mouse low so that I could elevate was a bit tedious, especially on non-flat terrain). I've done a circuit of the islands and scoped the waterfalls, but due to my innate blindness I've found neither characters nor shelters nor flowers yet. What I'm really keen for is seeing people on the server soon - testing the multiplayer and having people to soar around with is what I'm keen for.

Mmm... It sounds like the server isn't giving you a start location. If you can try a different name for logging in (usually you just use the same one each time), try something like fae1, no spaces etc, just on the off chance that's it. The most likely issue is that a firewall is blocking it. With the default windows firewall it just pops up a message asking to allow Wander through the firewall, that you click accept to. I'll add in a message tomorrow that will pop up if you can't access the servers, as currently it's totally unclear to the player. Thanks for telling us about the issue. Sorry it isn't working for you.

Syngyst, We will look into adding a loading screen as soon as possible. I tested Wander on my 6 year old desktop and the white screen is there for a long time which is pretty scary. We also forgot to disable the M key to griffin testing shortcut, so i'll fix that soon as well, it should just bring up the morph menu/hud.

"ent-nav" is a fantastic name. :)

Sir_Sparhawk: Thanks for the feedback, aesthetics and controls are important so we'll do our best to fix it soon. What was the issue with the sky flickering?

Hi loki, I'm not getting a login page to enter my name at all, I did the very first time I downloaded, i've tried deleting and redownloading , reextracting, cleared temp internet files, I do get the screen resolution UI Play leads directly to the wander window this gives me a veiw of two island, one left one right and I can see the waterfall on the left island is flowing, the UI interface bottom left will open and I can hear a click if i try selecting, as before but there's def no login for me to try changing my name. Also at the very first download I had firewall message which I allowed and have checked to ensure wander is allowed which it is.

edit to add I have tried turning my windows firewall off just in case but no luck.

My ent seems to become pixelated with blue when I zoom out, still haven't found anything I would classify as shelter or a character unlock, found some calla lilies, but couldn't pick them. Haven't seen any other players either, I think you gave us too big a space to wander! I also 2nd the need for ent-nav.

Also, if you reach a cliff or rock that you cannot walk through, if you jump a bunch of times you kind of glide up the rock face.

ETA: 4 hours later and I have finally found a character unlock! It's the griffin, unfortunately, no matter how many times I click on it, nothing happens. ETA2: I got it, there's no sign that you achieve it when you click on it, the only way to know is to keep checking the flower menu, there should be some fanfare or something.

ETA3: The character unlocks are so small and easily missed, it was pure chance I stumbled onto the griffin one, since it appears none of the others are in the same type of location I am utterly lost as to where to look, still no flower picking, and no shelter, also, still no other players. By the way, how many islands are there? I have no clue.

I've tried this out on my desktop and netbook now, the latter being low performance. In fact on my netbook, after extracting the game files I didn't leave myself enough room on the system disc to run system restore, so after trying it out on my system drive, I moved it to my data partition and it worked fine. I'm thinking this is portable and could be run from a usb flash-drive. This would make it easy to test on different systems of the same OS.. but I'm not sure if it will affect performance. I'll try it tomorrow and also publish performance figures and specs for both my machines.
I've found a shelter!! Major bug here.. no booze
Found several waterfalls.
Found nothing else.
Lily got it right above, too much space to explore. It takes ages to move from a to b.
I'm guessing the unlocks resemble the pictograms shown in the blog, and as such would expect to see them either on the beach or in clusters of rocks. They would be impossible to find in the woods. If they are in the rocks it will be a problem since I walk under many of them. I'm also guessing the flowers to be bright and outstanding.. I can't interact with the little white lilies around.
If we stayed on one island could we expect to find at least one of each of the features you ask for?
What is the range of the proximity chat and how do we know if someone is using it?
As for the ent being able to walk through trees being a bug, please don't fix it yet, otherwise the poor thing is confined to the beach.

ETA: I've found one shelter in nearly 5 hours of exploring... that suggests we have too much of an area to explore.
ETA2: Having seen your ETAs, Lily. What do the unlocks look like?

It's a small tablet, that stands upright with a glowing shape of the unlock on it. It's small and blends in pretty well. The griffon one is about 3/4 the length of the body of the griffin, not including head, just the body. If you're an ent it reaches to a bit below your knees. I feel like I could search all 4? 5? islands for days and never find another one. I think they should be large monoliths, something easier to see when you're wandering around, because if I hadn't been right where I was, I'd have missed it because it would've been hidden behind foliage, no telling how many others I have passed (if any). Also, still no shelter

Hey guys,

The tablets are only the way they are for testing for now. They will stand out more in coming versions. If you have problems clicking them I tend to find clicking all over the tablet works also you need to stand right up next to it at the moment., Sometimes theres a sweet spot to hit closer to the ground. It wont automatically appear if you have the menu open either, thats a bug.

Also dont forget to open your proxy chat window to talk to others ingame :D

Wander worked okay for me when I first downloaded yesterday and wandered around for a couple of hours. But today I have the same issue as Faereluth, it just stops at the view of two islands. I've checked my firewall, it is still set to allow Wander through.

I agree it's difficult to know where to go & where you have been. Maybe a map that opens up as we discover new areas? I couldn't find a shelter anywhere and certainly wouldn't find my way back to one in the event of a storm. Found some white flowers but couldn't pick them.

Mar 17 2013 Anchor

We might have had a temporary server outage, i'll set up some better monitoring so we know what's going on there. Otherwise i can't really see how it would work sometimes and not others. I'm just uploading a new build with quite a few things fixed. Linux version still not working smoothly but we will get onto that tomorrow. Thanks everyone for the feedback!

So got to spend about an hour in game tonight. YAY!! :)

I was thankful for having read posts above, the white blank loading screen was a little nerve racking, wondering if it was actually working or had frozen before even loading anything! Wondering if you are considering some sort of graphic on their to show game loading? And if you'll be introducing a slightly more detailed tutorial (other then the small quick pop-up with controls info)??

Landed on the beach and begun a walk into the forest, quickly became lost and I would agree that some sort of mini map would be helpful, otherwise like tonight, I'll spending a good amount of time, walking (or wondering if I am) in circles!

I had trouble with the camera view/character movements, I really struggled to find a view that allowed me to see where I was going, and not have the trees continually obstruct the view, I found using the mouse to zoom in/out/around was 'jerky''and overall hard to find a "perfect" view.. I will note, that after a little hint from skadiwu I found the griffon stone and flying definitely (once mustering the sort of running jumping take off) easier then walking on the ground (as either griffon or ent).

The stone/character unlock - There was no sound or on screen display to acknowledge that I had clicked it, or unlocked it, I did have to click a number of times before finally seeing it when clicking on the purple flower icon (bottom left of screen) <- I tend to play with sounds off, so some sort of on screen display to show I've achieved it would be appreciated.

Having said all that, I did really like the graphics, I didn't notice any lowering of performance when another character appeared, nor did I expereince any crashes! I'm certainly looking forward to getting back in and exploring more! :D

Found an unlock now, the griffin one. It pays to follow the instructions in the blog, but not necessarily in the right order. Still not found a flower or anyone else in game. I've also done a sort of sketch map of the 5 islands and distinguishing features.
QUESTION: Unity web player has been installed on my netbook (Win 7 x64) but NOT on my desktop (Win 7 x86). Any ideas why this is?

Mar 17 2013 Anchor

I've downloaded the Windows version successfuly (I think). When I open the Wander application, it comes up with 'Play' within a minute. However, when I click on 'Play', I get a large white screen with nothing obvious going on, followed by 'Wander_alpha.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the programme to stop working correctly. Windows will close the programme and notify you if a solution is available'.

Help?

Mar 17 2013 Anchor

Hi just popping in to say I'm still watching from the heavens, I do have sound now but no login screen and hence no way to get down onto land and help test, well apart from flagging up this problem, can't wait to get down on terra firma. Btw do the islands have names?

Mar 17 2013 Anchor

Mocha and Fae, you need to unzip "or uncompress" the folder you downloaded. I usually find it easier to copy the contents of the compressed folder into a new folder and play from there. You can't play it from the compressed folder.

Mar 17 2013 Anchor

I think I've unzipped it already. I have a file folder called wander_alpha_Data and an application called Wander_alpha.

I've also moved these from Downloads into a folder of their own.

Mar 17 2013 Anchor

Mocha. Don't know what's happening then. It's just gone 9am there so hopefully devs will have some ideas when they look in.

I'll build a debugging version for you and upload it now, it should be uploaded in about an hour. Then I'll post information about how to send the debugging logs to us and hopefully we can see what it is quickly. Mochamai: Can you tell us a bit about your computer: Windows version, graphics card, graphics card drivers, directx version. Another tester had problems with very old NVidia drivers which were fixed after he downloaded the new ones.

Faereluth: Your problem is network related, when you have the debugging build hopefully we can work it all out.

though first: Breakfast :)

Mar 17 2013 Anchor

I have unzipped, actually to my desktop. I can get the UI to choose the graphic setting, pressing play launches the game window, from there I get a black screen first, definitely no login page. The game opens and I am above the ocean, between two islands, I can see the waterfall flowing on the left one, I can see the wave action (tho its pixelated from this high up) I can hear the sound track. I can get the UI purple flower to activate/open I can hear a click if I click any of the petal symbols except the griffon) and thats it, theres no actual visual of me and absolutely no key action/mouse action allowing any kind of movement. But I'm still hoping to help test.

Hi Loki, *waves* You replied as I was typing, I'll hold fire on bed for a bit then :)Enjoy breakfast

Mar 17 2013 Anchor

oh.. no login page means we're hitting a not network related issue... I'll see what the debug build says but I'll rewrite the login UI anyway today, because it's giving us problems under Linux as well. Thanks for the detailed info.

Faereluth, the upload is moving pretty slowly, it'll probably be another 15/20 minutes until it's uploaded, so if it's late maybe save it until tomorrow. I'll put the links on here when it's done. I'll see what could possibly be going wrong with the section of the code. Your earlier question: The islands don't yet have names, though we often refer to them by who designed each one. We're planning on having players name them in the not too distant future as prizes.

Mochamai: Please also download and run the debug version when i've uploaded it. Just cut and paste whatever the debugging output is to here or attach it.

snygyst wrote: QUESTION: Unity web player has been installed on my netbook (Win 7 x64) but NOT on my desktop (Win 7 x86). Any ideas why this is?

Wander doesn't use the web player, or any web related technology (flash/browser/etc) so I have no idea why anything would have installed the web player. Did this occur when you downloaded / ran Wander?

As a small hint, all the character unlocks are on the same island at the moment, and they are all a few times bigger than the were earlier.

Here's the windows debug version:

Both myself and Bumblebeez are standing at the griffen rock but cant see each other or see each other in chat window?

Also when you are flying you cannot type in chat window without it moving the direction you are flying in.
