A free to play, Multiplayer, Stunt Driving game, with global leaderboards, currently in active development by one person, Stunt Car Online is a playable download racing game powered by Unity 3d. The game will be a pay-what-you-want model where I humbly ask for players to donate a little money to help support me - mostly paying for the astronomical hosting fee's! - but you never know, getting a unity pro license one day would certainly help performance! :) Currently there is an online demo of the game, but this is rapidly becoming very out dated as I am no longer updating this version. Thanks for your time!

An update of progress on Day 2 of the "lets try and make a new car in a week" challenge...

Posted by on

So here we are on day 2 then! - I spent most of the day looking at how to lay out the rear suspension of the car. The suspension and spring placement is BY FAR the most complex bit of setting up the car so I thought I'd tackle it head on rather than leaving it till last (when I'll no doubt be fatigued!)

Here's what the new suspension (and brake disks WIP) looks like:

Day 2

There's quite a bit of polygon optimisation that I need to do on it yet, but I'm quite pleased, I've remade the arm struts, their connectors to the car, the springs, new brakes (which aren't textured 100% yet) and put it all in position so that it should go into the engine fairly easily.

I then got a bit distracted by my awful wheel shape. I thought it was good enough yesterday but having looked at it again today it just didn't look good enough. So I concentrated on the wheel to get that looking right. (And here's a before and after)

Day 2

this is what the wheel looked like by the end of day 1. I was reasonably happy with it - but having looked at it again this morning, it just looked too flat. (Sure, I could use a normal map to bring it up a bit but there's only so much a NM can do)

And so I completely redesigned the entire wheel. The flat hub cap going infavour of a more rusty alloy type wheel. (complete with airvalves and rivets (which are still untextured!))

Hopefully you will agree it's a big improvement...

Day 2

Note: this is still missing a specular map, normal map and any reflectivity I might decide to put on it...

And here's a quick image of the rear of the car as it stands by the end of Day 2.

Day 2

(note the new driver chair, and the new nitro gas canister on the back!)

Day 2

The back... Mostly untextured!

See you tomorrow! Thanks for looking :)
