Shallow Space is a 3D Real Time Strategy game inspired by Nexus: The Jupiter incident and Homeworld. Shallow Space focuses on organised mass RTS space combat in a fully 3D environment. Ships in Shallow Space are nearly always grouped into Flotillas and Wings, and orders issued to these structures cascade to the subordinate members. Rather than stressing out clicking on the units or dragging selection boxes during the heat of battle, standing orders are issued in advance leaving you to zoom around, activating abilities and arranging support and reinforcements. Should the tide turn in battle traditional control is still available.

I definitely appreciate the demo. I never understood why most companies don't offer one as it provides insight into not just how the game feels, but the amount of effort the devs put into their product.

Well the demo will be limited, 75% of the game isn't yet made so actually it will represent a small quantity of the end experience. Why they don't make demo's as standard though is beyond me, would probably shave a good 15% off the number of pirated games.

lol because most games (especially AAA) are buggy messes on release nowadays, if they released free demos of this, their sales would be slashed in half easily

I'm not saying it is, I'm just saying why demos don't happen much anymore

Yup, people pirate the game to try it, if they like it statistically they are more likely to buy the game, however still most people don't bother and never buy the game, hence a net loss. It's simply the moronic state of the gaming industry that made so much money they attracted big executives with bigger pockets than brains and move from company to company sucking them dry before moving to the next one.

Yeah I used to loose sleep over this and I toyed with the idea of DRM and I'd rather just pile the effort into the game. Taking the reputation hit for 'interrupting' the players experience with that crap just isn't worth it.

We will release on Steam initially though, but that's more a small business time thing more than anything. Steam send you a payment at the end of each month, tax is dealt with so it slashes the burden of business down to a fraction.

Once the game is complete we'll open it up to GoG and HumbleBumble and we have already progressed the arrangements for doing so.

I love the direction of your game (but the active special abilites), looks very Nexus-like to me :-)

As for demos, there is a very logical reason for their non-existence today, this video will explain it to you Youtube.com (actual video, no stupid joke)

Interesting, sadly the overriding factor in that interesting collection of facts is getting noticed. I could make the best looking game in the world (trying here!) but if nobody notices, it's all for nothing.

Offering something for free always gets people's attention.
