Dev Blog 1

Firstly we would like to introduce ourselves. We are Winglett Entertainment, a two man team comprised of myself (Gareth) and Matthew. Matthew handles all the in engine work, programming and UI. I do the art and write blogs!

In this week’s dev blog we will be covering the development of our game, Radical Relocation, since releasing it in the Ludum Dare 40 Competition, and our plan to make it a full scale game.

If you’d like to play the original Ludum Dare entry version it will be in the demo section, give it a go!

Technical Side:

On the technical side of things, almost every aspect of the game will be changing under the hood. Almost every mechanic of the game is being reworked in order to make it suitable for an actual game. This includes adding far more levels, maps, vehicles, reworking the cargo gizmo and many other such things that make a game a game.

With the car physics we are aiming for a slightly arcade feel which can be fun when not carting around cargo, but also highly controllable for when you are. The gizmo system was one of the few complaints we did receive from Ludum Dare players, and we want to improve by having a better placement system and also a way to save your load so that if you have to restart the level you don’t have to replace it.

Art Side:

On the art side, much is being added to transform it from a simple game into something awesome looking! We are going for a low poly style, for it’s simple beauty and performance across a wide range of Laptops and PC’s. The game is going to have 3 scenarios for early access, a town map, a forest map and a snowy map, each with its own set of challenges and experiences. New nature assets have been produced accordingly, as well as a very cool road creation tool.

Have a look below to see the new nature assets, cargo, vehicles and our road creation tool!
