DO NOT GO INTO THIS GAME EXPECTING A POLISHED AND STIMULATING EXPERIENCE
THE FULL VERSION IS CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENT AND THE DEMO IS MERELY A SHORT TIME WASTER
There's a 90% you'll think it's bad, because it kind of is. But don't worry, that's being worked on and that's why I made a demo, to get feedback.

IMPORTANT:
This game is short and possibly confusing. There isn't much to do, and there isn't much to look at.
That being said, it is a very basic version of the full game that is currently being developed.
The full version will have a more random and more varied map, ways to defend yourself, better enemy AI, and more.
The demo version is merely a small taste of what is to come. The point of the demo is to see if people like chance-based horror games.
UPDATE (9/21/14): They do not.

DETAILED GAMEPLAY INSTRUCTIONS:

The goal of the game is to get the highest score you can. Your score increases as you go down the hallway.
There are two ways of keeping this score:
- Every time you save at a laptop, your score is saved (max 3).
- When you exit through the red door, your score is saved but the game will end.

At a randomly decided time, you will die. Upon dying, you will get the last score you saved at a laptop.
You will have a few seconds to get to a red exit door before you die, but you might not always make it to one in time.
This means that every time you come to a red exit door, you must decide whether you want to try and get a higher score, or keep the score you have.

A good strategy is to get about 10-20 points, exit, and try to beat that score the next time you play.
Or, if you see someone else get a certain score, try to beat that.

The Future of the Game

News

So about a week ago, I started fleshing out this idea I had for a horror game with a strong center on gambling. Turns out, most people aren't a fan of this.

Because of that, the game is taking a new direction:
No more gambling, no more chance, no more saving a score.
Yes, that was the entirety of the demo, and taking that out would make a completely different game, but it's for the best.

The new game will have a focus on dealing with stress under extreme conditions (well, not that extreme).
There will be more encounters with enemies, but they will not always end in death (if you can deal with the enemies quickly). There will be actual things in the hallway besides a laptop on a little table. The halls will actually be random, with varying length, and varying scenery.

There will be two modes:
A story mode that has an ending and plot, and an endless mode that will be more simplified but will never end.

From this point on, I will start posting updates on the new version, so if you liked the demo because of the whole gambling thing, sorry.

Once the new version gets more fleshed out, the page will likely have a different name and description, but I will leave the old demos in the downloads for a while.

As always, thank you all for your support and feedback. Without that, this game would have been a disaster.

TL;DR
Sorry for making a crappy demo, the new game will be much better.

Think of it like a slot machine. If you keep walking through the grey doors, you'll get more points. Obviously you would want to get as many points as possible, but there's the chance that when the threat appears, you might not be able to make it to a red door in time. Since you only get to keep points when you use a laptop or exit through the red door, getting too ballsy could end with you dying and losing some of your score. Does this help?

I ran down the hall several times for points and always saw the same hallway. Is this part of the game or was I just lucky enough to have this happen to me

This is indeed part of the game. I understand your confusion, as it's easy to think you're running down the same hall since it is the same length. In the full version the halls will be more varied in length and design. Thanks for playing again though!
