Hi folks, it's been a while since the last update. We've been very busy putting together the next alpha version. First, it will be released within the next 10 days if everything goes right. We're very, very close to having a working voxel LOD system implemented, I don't want to get into hyperbole territory, but this will really set Planet Explorers apart from ALL the other voxel games on the market visually, you'll have a horizon of over 1km! Once this gets implemented in the next several days, we'll also try to extend the enemy visual range out to 150-200 meters, this will also help with immersion.
We've also finished the most basic editor for the creation system, in alpha v0.3 you'll be able to create any handled weapon, maybe guns as well. It's kinda complicated, almost like a very simple modeling program in game...except you use voxels. It's so complicated that we're thinking of just using a video demonstration in game instead of writing up a tutorial.
We also finished the NPC partner system. The player will be able to gather up to 2 NPC characters to partner up with. The NPCs will be able to wear anything the player gives him/her as well as use any weapon. We're still programming in the strategy stuff, like surrounding an enemy or staying out of certain enemy's attack range. We're also implementing random missions for random NPCs. Also, we've implemented the store system, so now you can buy stuff...with MEAT. That's right, meat is the currency of Planet Explorers...it's also food. We've also added another portion of the main storyline.
On enemies...there are a few more, some are insanely too powerful. We're still tweaking that. They'll drop meat now.
On the weather front, we've implemented the day/night cycle, it looks good. Still tweaking.
The player now can handle range weapons, the bow and arrow being the first. We're still tweaking with the balance, but we've got some ideas to keep players from using range weapons exclusively unless they just want to burn through a lot of meat.
Finally, multiplayer; we're close on this front, but not there yet. All we're trying to do is have a single coop tower defense map for v0.3. Dunno if it'll make it in, but we're hopeful.
