Monsters is a 2D action shooter inspired by the classic arcade game Robotron 2084. Wielding “twin stick” controls, the player aims to defeat waves of enemy monsters bent on his destruction. The player must use caution, however, as every shot drains the player’s life/energy. The only way to stay alive is to continuously collect the hearts of the slain monsters. In addition, hearts of different colors provide a variety of “power-up” like abilities that the player can use to their advantage. The player uses two sets of controls, one to move, the other to fire. Each wave is a single screen populated with a number of enemy monsters of varying types. Coming into contact with an enemy or an enemy projectile will decrease the player’s life/energy. Defeating each level of monsters will allow the player to progress to a more difficult level. The game will progress infinitely as the player defeats each level.

Monsters! is now in beta phase of development. That means we have implemented all the features which we wanted to put into the game and are now just play testing the game to make sure there are no bugs and that it plays smoothly. Original Monsters! Promo Video - Indie DB

You can now download a free beta version of Monsters! from IndieDB and use our forums here to provide us with your feedback. The free beta version of Monsters! only plays up to level 1-15, but provides quite a challenge in itself (I dare you to actually make it to level 1-15 ;) ). This latest version includes online leaderboard reporting (as soon as our dns updates) so you will be able to compare your scores to those of other players.

If, however, you would like to help support our development of Monsters! (and future games), please consider purchasing Monsters! from Desura, which will allow the player to progress past level 1-15 infinitely. Also, in future versions of the purchased game, you will be able to unlock cutscenes which will tell the story of the game's protagonist, the wizard.
