#4 Devlog Of Maeldor (Characters-Anoriel)

Hello and welcome to another devlog! In this one I will be talking about the second character that we will be able to control in Maeldor. Get your coffee and let’s begin whenever you are ready!

FAVORITE CHILD OF THE FOREST

Our second character, and the character I am currently working on is called Anoriel. She is a wood elf, carrying a legendary bow made by the strong trees of the Narinar Forest, her homeland. She is a very skilled archer, and also the personal guard of the queen of the wood elves, Nulinviel.

She was sent by the queen herself, by the order of the Forest Spirits to investigate the growing darkness outside their borders and also to aid in any way she can in this fight. Being deeply connected to the forest, she was granted with special abilities and also a dagger forged with the wisdom of her people, which never gets blind and also different kind of sharp arrows with different abilities.

She has 1 fast arrow attack (Arrow Shot), 1 close attack (Dagger Slash), 1 special ability (Fade), and an ultimate ability (Poison Rain).

THEY’LL NEVER SEE HER COMING!

Her Arrow Shot ability is a bit different than Turmaeg’s fast attacks, because she can make a combo by triggering a wounding shot with every third attack she makes, which slows down the enemy for a short amount of time. But of course, her combo must not be broken if intended to perform a wounding shot.

For example you shot your first arrow, shot your second arrow, and without breaking the loop, if you can shot your third arrow, that arrow will slow down the enemy. It is indicated in the game with a different arrow and a different animation. But if you get hit or stop sending arrows, the combo breaks and you turn back to your first shot.

She can also send normal arrows while on the air towards the ground with an angle close to 45 degrees, and these attacks can also count in her combo, if done without breaking the loop.

To give her some ability to interact with the objects and also to use in close combat, I have added the Dagger Slash attack. This is not just a melee skill for her, this is also an interaction skill, in order to be able to use some of the “must” mechanics of the game such as opening chests, collecting crates or hitting switches, but to prevent players from using this skill like a spam attack, it is designed in a way to consume stamina, so if you don’t have any stamina, you can’t use this ability. This also creates the situation where players must think twice before using this skill every time they encounter some enemies.

Her special ability called Fade, is the only defensive ability she has besides her dash ability, which other characters also posses. Wood elves are deeply connected to the spirits of the earth, and this connection creates a bound between them, which helps her to become one with the world around herself, or to become invisible to the unfriendly eyes. Since spirits of the world are energetic beings, she can get information about the energies around her, like which are hostile and which are friendly. But of course this ability consumes stamina, since we don’t want her to “Fade Away” from the physical world forever, don’t we? No we don’t.

And lastly, her ultimate ability Poison Rain is a skill where she shows her Wood Elf abilities, by shooting lots of poisonous arrows to the sky, and dealing damage while also applying a poison effect to the all enemies around her. This skill has a cooldown.

LAST WORDS

I must confess it was quite fun and satisfying to control her, after most of the pieces come together. But of course, this is not the final version, there is still so much room for improvement! If you prefer to control a fast paced character in this kind of games, then Anoriel is going to be your choice!

As always, it was my pleasure to have you read my devlog and of course thank you so much for sharing your precious time with me!
