Launching ITD (Desura Version) Thread - Into the Dark

Hi!

I'm having trouble launching the game. When I press Play (in the launcher) all I see is a command prompt for a few seconds, then nothing happens. I have tried using different settings and disabling most of my background programs. I have been unable to view the log file (from the settings menu) either, because it doesn't exist.

Here are some of the specs I'm using:
Windows 8 x64
CPU: Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.00 GHz)
GPU: Radeon HD 5850
4GB RAM

Btw, the game looks really cool. I'm looking forward to playing it. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried starting the Exe directly?

The launcher is usually only for convenience. Try the ITD_TGOTY.exe!

Starting ITD_TGOTY.exe directly has the same effect. In the Task Manager I can see a "FPSC Game" process running for a few seconds, then disappearing again.

edit: I also tried running it as administrator.

Have you already installed the DirectX from the Folder?

The Desura client installed "Direct X All" after the game finished downloading (and again when I tried to verify the game files). But I can't find any DirectX installer in the game's directory. Should it be in the "into-the-dark" folder?

yes, in the into the dark folder is a "directX" folder.

If not, manually install Microsoft.com

No luck yet. I tried to manually create a folder called "directX" in the install directory (where ITD_TGOTY.exe is) and extract the DirectX files from the link into it. Unfortunately it didn't work.

I even tried to use the "directx_Jun2010_redist" folder from the demo (which works fine!) and copy it over. Didn't work either.

Irgendwas fehlt noch, leider.

I am having the exact same issue ..please let me know how to fix this

I have re-installed verified files etc....

when installing xvid 1.2.2 it never really seems to do it..i let it sit for hours then hit close but then the same issues as riccardo posted above happens

So, yesterday I thought the problem was because of Windows 8 (which is not officially supported). However, I did have the same problem on my Windows 7 laptop.

BUT, today I managed to play the game after all. What I did was take the .exe from the Demo version (called "IntotheDark_Demo.exe"), put it into the directory of the full game and run that. As far as I can tell the game works completely as intended that way (including improved textures, features, etc). The directX folder is not needed. I've played up to level 3 so far. I know that sounds like a crazy workaround, but it has solved my issues. Hopefully this information is helpful to someone.

Ricardo if you could please give me some simple instructions on what you did..im not a computer wiz but i get by lol i would sure appreciate it i would love to play this game....thanks if possible

Sure, it's really easy.

* Install the demo for this game and open the install folder (called "Into the Dark DEMO").
* In there is a file called "IntotheDark_Demo.exe". Take this file and put it into the directory of the main game. ("...\Desura\Common\into-the-dark")
* Then just double click on the exe. It will start the full game.

I'm sure there is a better way of solving the problem, but I haven't noticed anything unusual for the first hour or so. (Except that the game is pretty unusual itself, in a good way. )

when i try to gpen the demo file to get the exe file it just starts the demo i cant semm to locate that file (told ya im a little slow lol)

I launched the game with the demo tab and it seems to be working odd fix thank you so much enjoy it

Ivan i appreciate you sending me another exe but im back to square 1 i hit play and get the windows cmd screen for a few seconds and nothing happens just like it did before. any suggestions???

Fully understandable, please try running the ITD_TGOTY.exe directly.

im having same issue and game wont start same thing as these guys man come one i wanted to play this so bad tonight

Troubleshooting for "not launch problem":

1. Here is a recompiled exe:

Rename your old one, copy the new one into your folder and start it.

2. Try to move the game folder (the whole one) to another Directory or harddisk, just out of c:\program files or other system-used folders. C:\itd or d:\itdgame should be fine.

3. Make sure your DirectX, Divx, Xvid, Windows Media (wmv) and ogg codecs are up to date.

Well when I have the game launcher open, I click play and nothing happens. It does open a CMD window but thats it.

System Specs :

Windows 7 (64-bit) service pack1

AMD Phenom II x6 1045 T (2.7 GhZ)

32 GB Ram (Gskill 1333 Mhz)

AMD Radeon HD 7950 ( Gigabyte windforce edition)

MSI 990FX motherboard

285 GB HD

Well it works now but I can't grab the wood

First I downloaded that exe from dropbox. Then I went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Desura\Common\into-the-dark and pasted the new exe in there. Then I ran it with admin privileges and it worked.

You must first losen the wood, jump on the laying regals, go to the wall and press enter. it will rain wood then!
