An accurate simulation of "The Hunger Games". You're a tribute, fighting intelligent AI in a "battle royal" to be the last person standing. Inspired by the novels by Suzanne Collins and the movies by Lionsgate Films. This is a turned based combat game in 1st person perspective, with Roguelike elements. The randomly generated arenas feature a central "Cornucopia" filled with melee and ranged weapons along with food and other gear, surrounded by wilderness in which one can hide or forage. You may form alliances with the other tributes, and backstab or be backstabbed by your allies. In the preview image (from a special "Audience" standpoint) you can see the semicircle of 24 tributes on their platforms, the central golden Cornucopia, gear in front of and within it, and surrounding landscape containing mountains and waterways. "May the odds be ever in your favor!" :)
Version 3.0 introduces options that can make a decent reproduction of the clock arena from "Catching Fire": Select a circular tribute arrangement around the Cornucopia with spokes across water, combined with bowl shaped forested hills rising around it. :)
wont u get damge from the dark water
Yes, tributes normally take damage from deep water, because only District 4 can swim in dark water without a flotation device. However another new feature of 3.0 is the ability to set an initial inventory item. Set it to "Club" and everybody will use their Club to swim to shore. That's similar to how in the book "Catching Fire" everybody had a purple flotation device around their waist. The initial inventory item can also be nothing (the default, like in the 74th HG) or something random (in which case the game is like the movie "Battle Royale", where one person might start out with some Berries and the next person gets a Gun! :)
By starting with a club, wouldn't that mean that the career would actually gang up on people and give them unfair advantage? Since they have a weapon, they are way more likely to beat somebody with it and district 5 tributes are also advantage
Yes, Clubs aren't just a flotation device, but a weapon, which means everybody starting with a weapon does change the game, but only slightly. Clubs do 0-2 damage, and barehanded does 0-1, so it's not much better. District 1 gets a bonus to barehanded combat (doing 1-2 damage with Fists) so it actually gets weaker having to use a Club at the start. Other Districts get stronger starting with a Club, but that affects both Career and non-Career equally.
The Club is District 5's favored weapon, so they indeed get a slightly bigger advantage. However many arenas favor one District over another (e.g. Forest arena favors District 7 since there are so many trees, while Plains arena hurts 7 since there are no trees).
Would the tributes don't move since they wouldn't want to get damages from the darker water? Should the pedestial be put in the darker water, you may want to change the AI or put them at the edge of the sand
Indeed, the default distance of the launch tubes from the Cornucopia will have them placed next to shallow water, so all tributes can wade to the nearest spoke. In the screenshot above, the launch tube distance has been set a bit farther away, so everybody has to swim (but the initial inventory item described above can allow them to). Compare this picture to the initial version of the clock arena: Indiedb.com :)
Yet another awesome update. Can't wait for the next version.
it also shows the end of the countdown
Yes, the "gong sounds" message is useful to let you know exactly when you can start moving. You can press ">" or "Shift+F3" to fast forward the game until the next message is displayed. I like to press ">" to automatically jump to the end of the countdown (or occasionally when a tribute steps off their platform early and gets blown up. ;)
This looks so cool, next version is going to rock! Especially the new choose your inventory at spawn thing, I've always wanted that!
However, in the picture, the cornucopia blocks look a little transparent, why?
This next version is such a huge jump, I cannot WAIT!
edit:
Will the CF arena support less or more than 24 tributes? Would more or less spokes be added in that regard? Can you set how far the pedestals are in relation to the spokes?
Please release this already!! D:
You spotted another new option in the picture above: A glass Cornucopia! :) More importantly notice the trees are also semitransparent. These options generally make the game slightly easier for a human player, since you can better see objects and enemies behind things.
The "Catching Fire" arena is just an option to take a circular tribute arrangement and put water wedges and spokes around the Cornucopia. Therefore you can place any number of tributes around it. :) However it's currently always 12 spokes, so works best with a tribute count divisible by 12. Unusual tribute counts may put some tribute platforms on spokes and others in water. Increasing the launch tube distance from the Cornucopia will increase the wedge size the same amount (with the outer edge of the water always four squares from the tubes).
