Explosions are of course an important part of our game so we need to have many different sounding explosions. When you play the game you will learn to distinguish between the different explosions and it will help you decide whether you should run, take cover or stay and fight.

Nice quality. The flame quality is very good also.

I love good quality sounds. It's sometimes lacking in games, often treated as a secondary feature. I'm glad its being taken seriously.
Great sound is a good way to raise the immersion level, I somewhat prefer it to shiny graphics.

One question; will the game have 3d sound and interact with the environment?

Well they must not be in-game yet. Last two matches I played in, they sounded awful.

Everything looked & sounded awful maxed out. Still, it's an Alpha. That is to be expected.

I'm sorry but I'm not totally convinced with those sounds.

First of all I really think it's annoying if you can here the grenade bouncing on and off the floor like it was made out of wood and falling onto wood and not onto grass or dirt (where it actually won't bounce but land and stuck. I wasn't in war but I'm quite sure you haven't actually heard the grenade bouncing.
I could understand if you put that feature in to "warn" enemies of that grenade but I really don't like it.

Secondly I rather like explosions with a slight touch of bass. It's most certainly subjective but I think the explosion sounds are a bit too high-pitched. Especially the explosion sounds of vehicle-destruction and landmines!

Nevertheless I like the echo of the sounds. It's smoothly fading out and not cutting out sharply. Would be great if you could adjust the sounds and make them a bit more low-pitched with a slight bass.

I'd also love to have surround sound support ingame but I suppose you already planned to implement that. I just wanted to support Baryonyx with his question.

Explosions sound fine to me, what I don't like is the fact that destroyed vehicles disappear in a matter of seconds. I understand they have to leave asap (poluwise) but this is just way to soon if you ask me.

Well, the sounds sound alright, but they really aren't amazing, to be honest. I agree there should be more bass and also you shouldn't hear the grenade on grass. But, the particles, in my opinion, should look better (I may be just to used to the awesomeness of UDK's Unreal Cascade particles, which are freaking amazing). How about some sparks, flames turning into smoke, etc. I do understand however that this is an alpha and will probably sound and look better in the final version.

I have a reply from our Lead Sound Designer, Reto.Draebesmoelf to all of you:

"Hi all! Thank you so much for all the comments and feedback on the sounds so far.

I will try to explain (make excuses for) why the sounds sound the way they do.

Right now the sound of the hand grenades bouncing is a placeholder sound. It only has one purpose, to "warn" enemies like KeMoN states. When the sound is final it will sound different when it hits different materials and the volume of the sound will depend on how hard it hits the material.

For the large explosions we plan to add a low-pitched rumble noise to give these sounds more punch and bass. It will (hopefully) give the sounds what some of you feel is lacking.

Baryonyx, the game has 3D sound and will later on interact with the environment.

Again, thank you for your comments.

I like how there is a difference between most of the explosions.
