Hello, lovely watchers!
Unfortunately. we have taken the decision to postpone development of Grindstone. There were many complexities of the game that we did not account for, and we want to do the concept justice - not 'scale it back' and deliver a half-baked game. We are not like the others.
The team that assembled as 'Arbitrary Studios' will live on, and we intend to develop a multiplayer surival horror game. And we promise, it won't be as bad as that sounds. We have some cool ideas and hope that when we're finished, we can return to Grindstone and make the game it deserves to be.
Thank you for the support!
Sad to hear those news, I've been lurking here a lot and watching this project like a hawk, I expressed great interest in where it was heading as I had a similar idea and obviously wanted to play it sooo bad, on the other hand I commend you guys for having the brains and strength to take such a difficult decision.
Better to shelve it and dust it off once the right opportunity comes along than to mess it up royally and lose it forever.
Your new project seems interesting, I was wondering do you guys have open spots on your team? I'm currently shopping for projects/team to group up with, we can talk more details to see if we could be a good fit for each other.
This is our thinking - we already had to scale the concept back a bit, but if we did it any more then it wouldn't be worth doing (in my view).
I don't think we'll be expanding our team just yet, but if you PM me a link to your work I'll take a look.
Trust me I can honestly say that you made the right move, incase you currently have doubts about it, don't!
Sounds good to me, I've PMed you a bit about my work and myself.
Sad to hear this, but I completely understand your reasoning.
Good luck with your future endeavours!
Cheers - hopefully we'll be announcing details of the new game in a few months (we want to wait until we've got something more substantial)
Really sad. The gameplay looks very unique. But I understand your decision.
But another multiplayer survival game? Isn't the game market kinda over-fed with those games?
Cheers
I hope you don't think we'd abandon Grindstone to do another DayZ knockoff! The new game is 'survival' in the sense that 3 players have to survive, but it's not an open-world crafting game.
Unfortunately the reality for us is that horror games make an easier 'sell' which means it's easier to recruit.
Honestly, I was worried for a second, but I am glad to hear this.
I like horror games and I wish I could play them, but things scare me too fast :D
Maybe we should sell it as a horror game for people who hate horror games. It's definitely not going to be a jump-scare fest, we intend to make the atmosphere unsettling through visual and audio design. No random loud noises or scripted jumps.
Well, I can only speak for myself, but I barely made it through FEAR 1 xD Even games like Stalker scare the **** out of me. Haha
