First Command is a 2D top down game that takes advantage of the simplicity of two dimensions. Contested star systems provide the backdrop for epic space combat. Players will be able to fight for control of planets. They will be able to walk the decks of capitol class ships crewed by npc’s as well as their friends over multiplayer. They will even be able to fight other ships; blasting them apart one part at a time or boarding them to destroy them from the inside.

What did we do this week and what do we have planned for the next...

Just a small text update this week, if you missed our previous video update you can find it here: Youtube.com In any case we have been chugging along on all sorts of fun stuff. The most noticeable update is that ships can now compile their parts, or more accurately, their engines.

As of the video ships could already compile their parts and determine what was a chunk of hull and what was a cannon. However, speed and rotation were hard coded into the core. Now the ship also compiles any engines that are attached to it and determines its max speed based on the total mass of the ship vs. the max thrust of the engines. This also means that a ship built without any engines cannot move at all or even turn, leaving it a sitting duck.

We are not sure what we are going to aim for next. One of the two tasks on the table right now is getting the energy shields working, wrapping up the last of the main ship mechanics. The other is beginning on the infantry, which is the other half of the game and has been widely neglected in this version.

Either way we look forward to continuing to deliver updates to you. Wish us luck, we need it : )
