Farmageddon is a 3D match-making puzzle game. Your farm is being destroyed by a tornado, and your farm animals are all caught in the vortex! You must match cows, pigs, and sheep to save them before time runs out and they're lost in the tornado forever!

This last week has brought about some big updates for Farmageddon. I've put a lot of time into setting up the environment to give the player a more immersive gameplay experience, and am hoping that an Open-Alpha will be ready within the next week or two.

I am slowly working my way through the Farmageddon to-do list. There's quite a bit to show in this latest update. Starting with the environment, several new effects and assets have been added to give the farm a more immersive feel. Default Unity3D particles have been replaced with leaves, giving more of a "debris" effect around the tornado itself. But that's just the start...I am slowly working my way through the Farmageddon to-do list. There's quite a bit to show in this latest update.

New environment via the Unity3D Scene view

Keeping the center gameplay area green, I created valleys leading out to the edges, which are now rolling hills to work as a horizon in the background. The view did not work when the hills were kept the same green as the center, so I replaced it with a field texture I whipped up. Lastly, I added some green grass billboard objects as well as some wheat in the background, and adding a wind effect was the final touch.

Here's a gif showcasing some of the new environment features:

Latest updates to the login screen include leaf/debris particles, grass, and rolling fields in the background

I am looking forward to browsing the Asset Store later this week to find some music and sound effects to use in the game. But first and foremost I want to get this game completely playable, so I can post a Web Player version of it on the Farmageddon website and hopefully get some feedback from players.
I have also added a countdown timer for when the game starts, which currently happens immediately after logging in. I will be putting a main menu in there eventually, which will give you settings options as well as allow you to choose between the three different game types and view the leaderboards. I particularly enjoy the fact the barn actually gets in the way of the game board towards the end of the round, which can be seen in the following footage:

Over the next few days, my free time will be spent adding the main menu, as well as making it easy to play another round when done. Once those are taken care of, I'll be just about ready to publish this game on the website. For now, it's back to work.
