You play as Janus, someone who has the intellectual capacity to change the world. The corporations are controlling the government, and the government is controlling the citizens through technology. Citizens have a chip in their head- their Cortex. Janus isn’t the only one who has had enough of this dystopian environment- a hacktivist group called the Corruptors, who, using their hacking skills, seeks to take down the government and the corporations behind them, as well as a group of Amish Battlemasters called the Keepers, who wish to see all technology eradicated. They know technology can be used for evil. The Keepers, large, burly farmers and warriors, are guardians over a piece of technology called the Codex. If it falls into the wrong hands, the government’s ability to control its citizens could be exploited by whoever posseses the Codex.

Janus Ageslain (Anagram for Julian Assange), the Ageslayer, will be the one to bring the current Age of oppression to its end. He runs a small, illegal newsletter, called Dawns Wondered (Edward Snowden). The name comes from pondering the horizons, or the future. The game is largely supposed to be a warning, to what were to happen in the real world, what could happen if we don’t keep our government and corporations in check, in the future. Janus is a philosopher, and he is bent on overthrowing the government, whatever it takes.

At the start of the game, Janus is arrested for distributing his illegal, treasonous newsletter. Throughout the game, he will make friends, enemies, and figure out what is actually going on inside the government, and how to stop it. He meets his first contact in the Corruptors at a local pub- the Damning Blarney (Bradley Manning). The Corruptors and the Keepers both realize Janus’ potential, and both want him on their side. Janus must figure out which group has honest intentions, and who he will help. Are they both fighting for the same good, just in different ways? What is the role of technology, should it be destroyed, or controlled?
