Hello, architects of the future!

Last time we covered many different ways to build things in COMPLEX SKY as well as some core features behind construction. Today we will be taking a broader look at the game’s feature set in order to better understand its gameplay loop. Before we go on, please consider putting the game on your Wishlist:

Here is what the game will have in store for you:

— Progression & Customization

Complex Sky boasts both an endless Sandbox Mode and a progression-based Story Mode. In Story Mode, you will be tasked with advancing your civilization and meeting certain milestones, so we included some features to spice your playthrough up.

1. AI Cores.
Before starting your Single Player campaign, you will have to choose one of three AI cores that give you certain advantages and disadvantages. They are generated randomly with each new playthrough, giving you a new challenge each time.

2. Expanded difficulty settings.
In COMPLEX SKY, you have a whole slew of difficulty settings to choose from. Your final setup is also given an overall difficulty rating to give you a basic idea of how hard your run is going to be. Whether you want to relax or go 100% hardcore is up to you. Fiddle away!

3. Quests.
You can always build your city the way you want. However, those seeking a more guided experience can also do quests, just like in many traditional games! Completing quests earns you certain multiple-choice rewards, unlocks further quest lines, and also acts as a less intrusive tutorial to help you get your bearings.

— Logistics

COMPLEX SKY is as much about building as it is about maintaining what you’ve created. A lot of the game is spent managing your population and resources with their own sub-systems. Here are some of the highlights:

1. Inventory and transportation.
Most buildings in COMPLEX SKY have their own inventory: for example, producing something in a factory requires you to put the necessary materials inside that factory. Inventories can also be used as temporary storage.

This also enables you to set up transportation lines which carry goods and materials from one building to another. No need to drag your produce from a farm to a living apartment to feed your people, simply set up a supply chain and let the game do it all for you.

2. Population and population types.
Your living apartment blocks house your city’s population, which needs to be fed and taken care of. Growing your population is one of your main duties, as it also develops your civilization further, giving you certain perks as you go. More than that, COMPLEX SKY boasts multiple population types (such as workers or scientists), which have their own functions and can even evolve into other types! We will go into more detail about this mechanic at a different time.

This was just a light-ish showcase of the variety of features that will be present in COMPLEX SKY to give you a basic idea of what the game is all about and how it accommodates both hardcore and casual players.

We still have a way to go and a lot of features to cover (e.g. pollution levels), but we hope you’re now truly ready to put your thinking caps on when the game comes out!

If you liked waht you see, please try our demo out on Steam!

See you on cloud nine!
