Commander is a stylish and awesome strategy game made with passion and care to bring an epic experience to RTS enthusiasts. Beyond the visuals and the gorgeous classical music, Commander is a breakthrough in the genre with innovative game mechanisms and a memorable "easy to learn, hard to master" experience. As the "commander", you will have to do everything in your power to protect your people from a mysterious lifeform that is trying to annihilate the human race by throwing asteroids at them (!). Install turrets, drive spaceships, blow up planets and do all sort of crazy things to save the world. What do you want more? Lasers, missiles, particle effects, tons of pixels and a lot of fun!

Hi folks!

The new update of Commander is now available! This is the first Alpha update, which means that from now on, the Alpha version is more awesome than the Demo version. If everything goes as planned, there will be an update for the Alpha version every month and the next one will be a HUGE one (I know you're excited! Read below to know more!)

So, what's new in this version?

- Bigger battlefields
- New sound effects (ex: different sound for spaceships)
- New camera that follows the player (can be controlled manually with R/F!)
- New "how to play" and "credits" panels
- More levels*

The 1001 little touches
- Bigger World 1 layout
- Sound effects fade depending on the camera zoom
- Added the velocity of the spaceship to the fired bullets
- Music fade when pausing the game
- The bullet's explosion color (fired by the spaceship) match the spaceship color
- Force field effect if you try to leave the battlefield like a coward
- Intro cutscene is back with new sfx
- A cool animation when you finish the last level of World 1
- Spaceship shield don't appear if a bullet explode "on the spaceship"

Under the hood, for programmers:

- Current LOC: 45644 (delta: +5034)
- Commits: 158
- Better handling of "worlds", "levels", "campaign"
- Better handling of user data
- Refactored the code for the multiverse*

* Exciting news for the next update!

So I did not designed as much levels as I wanted or added new enemies in this update because I was busy expanding the battlefield and working on the camera. And now I will be busy doing something really awesome for you guys: in the next alpha update, the level editor will be available. Not only that, I'm currently working on the "multiverse"... yeah, THE MULTIVERSE! Imagine you could create your own "world" with as many levels as you can fit in it. Then imagine adding warps in your world to travel to other worlds made by awesome players like you. Then imagine doing all that in-game with leaderboards and all. Well sir, in one month, you will be able to do so! So what are you waiting for? Be part of the alpha today!

So has it been nearly two years since an update now? And the developer, according to his profile, hasn't been on Desura in a year.
Playcommander.com is a dead url. ephemeregames.com is a dead url, so I'm guessing his contact him jodi@ephemeregames.com is no probably dead. The only thing besides his Desura account and this game page that I can find that isn't a dead link, is his tumblr. Which doens't appear to have been updated in quite some time, either.

I find this upsetting. I love Commander, so yeah, partially becuase I would just love to see the finished PC version. But the real reason is that I supported a game - knowing that there was no guarentee it would be completed - but expecting the developer to respect his supporters enough to post an update saying the status of the game. If he posted saying unfortunately it was no longer in development, I wouldn't be angry, just a bit sad that it won't be finished - but I would have no regrets about backing it. But the developer has just vanished without caring enough to say anything to his supporters. That's why I regret supporting this game. Rather, this developer. I could have used that money to support a developer who would have cared about their fans as much as their fans cared about them. Respect.

And that it's still for sale as if in development..

Uhm, this game's last update was 9 months ago. Isn't it safe to assume it's been abandoned?

That would be depressing. Not that I paid to fund it. I don't regret that. I just love this game. The XBLIG version and this version which right away showed a lot of interesting developments.

I'm not sure if you're still trying to solve this issue but I really really want to try the demo, the game looks fun and my specs seem to follow it completely like Shingyboy...

@Shingyboy Hey! Sorry for the delay. Hmmm does your video card support DirectX 9.0c and Shader Model 2.0 ?

Yeah it is a ATi Radeon X1800 Series which actually goes up to 3.0.

Could it be something to do with the XNA framework it is on about?

Maybe! The specs I gave you (DirectX 9 w/ shader 2) are requirements for XNA 4.0 Redistributable. This is the only framework I'm using.

Looking at my list I do have it installed already, is there an update for it or anything that I can download? In fact I have 2 versions installed at the same time? 3.1 and 4.0

Hmmm I just checked this Blogs.msdn.com. My game use the HiDef profile. Your card should work as it's listed here: Xnawiki.com

Ok for the record I did some google searching and apparently people were having problems with Terraria, I had not ran Terraria in a while and it uses the same .net and XNA framework that you use. They said repair .net and XNA and for Terraria it worked but for this it did not unfortunately.

I did notice however for Terraria it was a much shorter message than the one given by this game and mentions nothing of HiDef profile. So that might be something to do with it.

Ok another thing I would like to add is that I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it too, still did not work for Commander, I seriously don't know what to do, do you not have any ideas?

It has been a few days now and no reply? Are you even close to figuring out what is wrong?

Yeah I thought so, I mean your game does not look that graphics intensive to me anyway and I have played far more graphics intensive games on my PC and then some games where I have to lower the settings a lot because it is a old card.

I don't know but it does seem to me that something has gone wrong with the software that detects the game or whatever for me, do you have any idea on how to solve it?
