The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe in three dimensions. Celestia runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.
Unlike most planetarium software, Celestia doesn't confine you to the surface of the Earth. You can travel throughout the solar system, to any of over 100,000 stars, or even beyond the galaxy.
All movement in Celestia is seamless; the exponential zoom feature lets you explore space across a huge range of scales, from galaxy clusters down to spacecraft only a few meters across. A 'point-and-goto' interface makes it simple to navigate through the universe to the object you want to visit.
Celestia is expandable. Celestia comes with a large catalog of stars, galaxies, planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and spacecraft. If that's not enough, you can download dozens of easy to install add-ons with more objects.

I love it! Now I ask, why can't space sims find things like this and then build up combat, ships, scale, and -maybe- terrain renderer?... wow now that I see it written out thats alot O_O
Celestia is a good space simulator with a nice idea - to travel through space looking at stars, planets, etc. Celestia has many cool features such as zooming, point-and-goto function, modifiability and support for many platforms.
Help on mine everything is red... all the planets and objects
celestia 1.6.0 is not offical.it lagged alot on my pc lol
ah i already thought, 1.6.0? and i happened to visit the homepage some hours earlier, and only saw 1.5.1 :D
btw. what's the "massive nebula" feature that's with this version?
Celestia is sweet, but why is it in the "games" section?
Celestia is a truly astounding means of accessing the Cosmos. Its ability to capture the sense of unimaginable scale, as well as the breathtaking images it supplies, has to be seen to be believed.
Its modding community is almost as limitless as the stars that Celestia provides. Do yourself a HUGE favor, and give this awesome application a try. If there was ever a program that would do the likes of Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking proud, then this is it.
Cool idea.
I like it! ;-)
