CARTONEROS® game is a unique hybrid between a digital video game and an analog board game. It is designed to be a fun and quick multiplayer game, where combat is an option and not the primary focus of the game. Most of the time playing CARTONEROS® you will find yourself building crews of characters and leading your crews through dangerous expeditions to collect resources - yes, cardboard. Simply eliminating other players or monsters might not make you the winner, as games are won by acquiring more cardboard than your opponents. The digital version of the game can be best described as a real-time tactics game.CARTONEROS® gameplay is organized into play sessions.
Each play session can be defined by the number of short games and the amount of cardboard to be collected. In the beginning, players receive some resources to build their crews and then try to collect resources from the maps, avoiding or confronting other players. After each short game, players can use the collected cardboard to refill their crews with new characters and equip them with new weapons, tools or other items. However, players can choose to spare resources and eventually win the whole session by spending less than others. Each play session then results in some resources added to the player. The main metric of success on global leaderboards is the balance of these resources in each player's profile.
CARTONEROS® can be played using stationary computers or mobile devices. Additionally, we designed two ways of playing the game from a shared location, drawing people to play together. One of the two ways is a special option for mobile devices for controlling the view of the game world using a shared boARd™ (large sized augmented reality marker). The second way is an alternative to video gaming - we are also emulating the digital game as a board game built out of cardboard and paper.
We are developing the prototype, looking for developer partners.
