We've kept this project under wraps for a year, but now we're ready to show everyone what we are working on....
Boot Hill Heroes is another retro RPG - but with a twist. Instead of the typical fantasy setting, Boot Hill Heroes is set in the American Wild West. Think spaghetti western meets Final Fantasy. Everything that you would expect is here - dastardly outlaws, brave lawmen, gunslinging desperados, saloons, railroads, indians, ranches, untamed wilderness, etc.
As you can see, the graphics are largely inspired by Earthbound. We are using a very clean and vibrant color palette. All the NPCs have their own unique sprites that really express their individual characteristics.
Also, Boot Hill Heroes is up to four players. You can have additional players drop in and out locally at any time and take control of any of your four party members in battle. Outside of battle, the menu system allows for all players to simultaneously manage their characters' inventories and abilities. So while one player is leading the party and talking to NPCs, the others players can fiddle with their characters, or go get a taco, or whatever.
The game is about 60% completed. Just need to add create the rest of the art and balance the gameplay. We will have a Kickstarter up by the end of this week to fund music for the game. Can't link to it here, but I'm sure you can find it.Now that this game is public, I'm dying to hear your feedback. We've been working in isolation for too long only wondering how this game concept will be received. Have you always wanted to play a Wild West RPG? Do you like the graphical style? Would you try playing an RPG with friends?
Let me know in the comments.
Reminds me of Earthbound
We're big fans of the clean and colorful graphics of Earthbound as well as the unique character sprites.
