Beret is a 2D puzzle-platformer game about a scientist, astonishingly named Beret, who has gained telekinetic abilities through his research at the Evil Corporation. He decides that the Evil Corporation is a tad too evil for his liking, and begins his solitary quest to overthrow the corporation and punish the evil deeds of his employers. Beret has 21 puzzle-filled levels, 120 collectable Medallions, over 20 hours of gameplay, and an unlockable level editor.

Hi all! I'm a big big fan of Beret, one of my favorite indie games out there. So a few friends and I have been racing the game, and trying to figure out the best routes & medallion choices. For now we're starting with just beat area 1 (the west wing). The first race we did was totally unpracticed, and the 2 best times were just under an hour. We started routing it, and now we've got the time down to ~16 minutes. With better play, sub-15 minutes is definitely possible. Here's a video of my run: I'm curious to see if anyone has any idea for routing improvements over the first 5 levels (since level 6 is just race to the end). And if anyone shows interest in wanting to race the game, I'd be happy to go into how we race each other. |

Hmm, interesting, a 100% speedrun of the entire game, instead of the minimal speedruns per level that are supported in-game. I don't really have any recommendations as far as routes go or any plans to compete in future races, but I would be really interested in watching speedruns of later levels. I doubt this is going to reach tool-assisted-spreedrun frame-perfect kind of stuff, but watching some quick platforming and quick surmounting of various obstacles is always really neat. |

I would do a tool assisted run of the game in a second if the resources were there... you would just be walking from destination to destination, as movable parts are just flying around you like a tornado. It'd look awesome. If we keep going with the races I'll be sure to post updates on routes & times! |

One of my friends actually did a TAS of the first level using the Java Robot class. Essentially he programmed the necessary sequence of key presses and mouse movements. It took him a long time and obviously isn't the ideal solution, but it looked just like what you described - Beret jogging calmly through the level with blocks and enemies flying all over the place around him. If there were a good way to record the game with external save states and frame-by-frame control, I would love to see a TAS! |

Any chance you could convince your friend to post a video, Kiwisauce? Might make for a good trailer... |

I'd love to see it too! |

Ah, unfortunately it was done with an old beta version of the game which I no longer have, and I don't think he ever recorded it. It definitely won't work with newer versions because the level design changed a bit, but he might still have the correct version lying around somewhere... I'll ask him. |
