Howdy,
So this week I continued to work on adding more villagers to their home. As I went over last time, there are some villagers which are fixed in place, either because they serve an important function (to be determined later) – such as the Elder and the Captain, or because they make sense to be there (such as the people drinking in the garden).
This week however, I added a couple of new types of villagers – starting with the wandering villagers.
Villagers will be generated randomly from houses, and will wander around. It’s a bit more nuanced than that however. Some locations have “activity points” which are areas where it makes sense for a person to stay and do something. Villagers will pick some activity points at random, walk over there, and perform whatever action makes sense in context.
Such as praying at the sacred site.
There are also some areas where people tend to congregate – the city centre is a good example – and depending on how many people there are nearby, the villagers will sometimes stop to have a chat.
After they’ve wandered enough – they’ll return to their homes.
I’ve also taken the opportunity to start implementing another type of villager who wanders around – the guard. These patrol around the village, keeping the Jarl’s peace for you.
There’s still some work to be added there, like giving them a choice of weapons.
And that wraps it up for this week. Next week I plan on putting on the high level finishing touches on the village, and then it’ll be on to something more exciting – the islands.
Til then
