Sal's Grabtastically Good Time is a 2d puzzle-platformer in which the player must navigate various levels using a jetpack that operates via tank-style controls while additionally using a retractable claw to deliver packages to various animals in need.
UI and professionalism - We made the UI, toast messages, and art much more professional and cohesive. We also added elements of professionalism such as changed text fonts and death transitions.
Level Reworks - We adjusted some of our existing levels to be shorter and removed levels to allow players to experience the full game in the allotted time.
Score System - We simplified our score system by making it based off of the time required for each level. We also added a star system to give the users context on how well they did in the level.
Motivation Behind Changes
Most if not all of these changes were made based on direct user feedback from playtesting. One big piece of feedback we got was that our level designs were too long and looked unprofessional. As a result of this, we decided to really focus on streamlining our art and reducing the amount of unnecessary toast messages. As for the star system, we want to make sure that the information presented to the user is straightforward and easy to understand. Lastly, we decided to shorten and remove some of our levels after receiving feedback that our game was too long and no one would make it to our later worlds/features.
If we had more time to work on the game, we would want to add new worlds and mechanics. We would also want to add additional juiciness and particle effects.
