Yesterday I downloaded Unity. I learned the interface and got used to the controls.

Today I have made progress.

Since I decided I want to make a game to see if the gaming industry is the right place for me, I decided to start with something that looked simple: making a terrain.

It took me an hour, simply to get the terrain colored correctly and the correct size and all the basics. It then took me an additional hour to give some depth to the terrain and make it into an island. It only took me 10-15 minutes to put trees on the island.

Of course, I plan to do so much more with this island, and I've already got a simple plot planned out. It should make for an interesting game.

I also tried to make a simple main menu- which, surprisingly, is not that simple and very frustrating. After an hour of struggling with Javascript code, I was able to make the "Play Game" button work. However, the "Quit Game" button will not work. I also learned a valuable lesson: Capital letters are very important.

I'm going to see if I can come up with some character sketches.

Despite the frustration, I am having so much fun working on this.
