I'm sure you don't have the money to deal with a $100,000 lawsuit.
Smarten up. Also, ripping assets just shows a lack of skill and dedication. Make assets like a real modder. It takes no skill to rip assets from another game.
Oh, and Black Mesa Source got approval from Valve.
Ripping assets from Far Cry and putting them into Crysis is illegal, since Ubisoft now owns the Far Cry name.
The curve might be exaggerated a little too much yes, but it is true that you can see a slight curve on the horizon when jumping from a plane like that.
L4D2 was $4.99 a couple days ago, and even better sales will happen, most likely.
Even at $19.99 (The price it is now) there is no longer a reason not to buy it. That is expansion pack price, and since it is nothing than an expansion pack to many of you, well it's priced like one now too.
No reason to not buy it anymore...
Seriously, no reason. It doesn't matter that they released this a year after Left 4 Dead 1. It's still a fantastic game with great polish, no shortage of players, DLC still being consistently released, and the player base as a whole is flourishing.
I could understand if it was buggy as hell or something, but it isn't... it's a bug-free game where everything is new. New infected, new survivors, all new maps, new weapons, melee weapons, new survivors, new music, new sound effects.... it's an entirely new game.
The only difference between CoD 4 and CoD MW2 are those same things... yet nobody considers MW2 just an expansion.
Those shots... are extremely old, to say the least. Here's a more up to date shot of stuff I have done. Img72.imageshack.us

Sickening. How many artists have you stolen work from?
Stolen work. Stolen from this artist: Gameartisans.org
In Mechwarrior, you couldn't get out of your mech and go on foot as well... on this one, you can.
.....the mod is only for Crysis 1 right now.
Thanks, Squiggers.
I know man right, this stuff is insane.
Mongoose is good at modeling. :D
Not bad, looks fantastic.
Looks like you should update the Overwatch Studios roster. :P
No news!? Must've just gotten this approved then?
Don't be so hard on yourself man, I'm sure you'll get a handle on how interactions between human beings work one of these days. :/
The game is bug-free, and has been...they just make minor changes that don't seem to affect anything.
I think that expecting free content doesn't make sense. Valve has no obligation to give free content...
Yeah, it didn't seem like it was you... but some others here don't seem as reasonable as you.
LOL
Only trolls vote other people down just because they don't agree with them and refuse to even acknowledge the points they make.
I play games for fun.
**** the politics of it. When I buy a game, I know that for what I am paying, I am getting everything as advertised. 5 Campaigns in terms of L4D2, as well as new firearms and the introduction of melee weapons... as well as new infected and new characters. We even got tons of new common infected.... and not to mention the AWESOME gore.
I never expected anything more, yet Valve continues with weekly patches to fix things, and even the occasional FREE DLC.
Fair enough, you seem like a reasonable enough guy.
The 3D trailer is running in real-time on a PC. Crysis 2 blows Crysis 1 out of the water, on full settings on a PC. Cryengine 3 has far more capability than Cryengine 2 and is twice as optimized.
That's right. The developers said that if you got 30 FPS on High settings in Crysis 1, you would get 60 FPS on High settings, provided you use the same computer with the same specs for both.
Looking at the 'we request' section of the boycott....
-That Valve honor its commitment to release ongoing periodic content for Left 4 Dead. (Done, L4D1 just got The Sacrifice. So did L4D2... and there will be more DLC.)
-That Left 4 Dead 2 not be released as a stand-alone, full-priced sequel but as either a free update to Left 4 Dead or an expansion with full compatibility with basic Left 4 Dead owners. (Odd request, those who are boycotting L4D2 have not played it therefore don't understand the level of gameplay it adds over L4D1)
-That Left 4 Dead owners be given discounts for Left 4 Dead 2, should it be released as premium content. (Wasn't there just a sale where L4D2 and L4D1 were around $6 each? Without sales they are $19 each)
Your requests have basically been made, yet I still see a couple of you trying to uphold not buying the game.... even though again, your requests have been made.
At this point, anyone who decides to continue to uphold this boycott never cared about buying these games in the first place and are just trolls.
Just using a little logic is all. ;)
Oh, and shouldn't it be 'we demand' instead of 'we request?' The way you guys talk about Valve, it seems like the former is true.
Actually, the Far Cry 2 mod for Cryengine 2 got a Cease and Desist from Ubisoft.
I outlined the legal issues with this endeavor in one of my posts below. It has nothing to do with what engine it is on. The engine and the game are completely separate entities. The issue is, is that assets were ripped from another IP made by another company (Crytek), to this IP, which is now owned by Ubisoft.
Being a modder... it is VERY important to know these legal issues, or else your work could be in vain.
This isn't about Crytek. It is about Ubisoft.
Do some research to clear things up and learn the legal issues that modders can be faced with.
Being a modder for the last 4 years... I have run into this legal issue countless times both with other modders and just large-scale mods being shut down.
Ripping content is not 'impressive.' It may have taken a long time to rip all of that content, but it takes absolutely no artistic skill to rip said content.
Try creating your own assets like a real developer would. Then you will quickly see what I am talking about.
For instance, I have been working on making custom forest assets with custom fir trees and things of that nature. I actually created my assets from scratch though, and did not rip them from another game.
I can assure you that I have spent far more time creating assets than you did ripping assets. It takes MUCH longer and takes far more skill and knowledge.
The Far Cry IP (Intellectual Property) was bought by Ubisoft a while before Far Cry 2 went into development. They still own the IP. This means that Ubisoft owns ALL the rights to the Far Cry name. Crytek owns the rights to the Crysis IP. Ripping content from another company's IP is illegal.
I would advise you to fix things before you get a Cease and Desist from Crytek and/or Ubisoft, and actually try making YOUR OWN assets instead of ripping them off other games.
Yes, Ubisoft owns the rights to the Far Cry name now, so it is no longer a Crytek IP...
Honestly, it's pretty lame to consider this a mod in the first place if all you did was rip assets from another game instead of put in the time and effort to create them yourself.
You should REALLY fix things before you start getting Cease and Desist letters from Ubisoft/Crytek. :/
Petrograd still may see the light of day, just not necessarily in mod form.
Back in September, around twenty members left the Petrograd team. Not only is this a staggering number, they were the core of the team. The most active and talented members.
The leader of the team became so infatuated with getting funding that he forgot about one thing - how everyone was still doing this on a volunteer basis... so he lost his sincerity towards us, and began to think of himself as higher-up than he really was.
Another case of someone counting their chickens before the eggs have hatched.
